I've just removed a paragraph consisting of a series of news stories of recent (only one date given) violent incidents in Palmers Green. I'm pretty sure that one of them was inaccurate, and I was very unhappy about the unnecessary mention of the nationality of the mentally disturbed person involved. I had been going to correct the English, but it occurred to me that it was inappropriate for an encyclopaedia article.

I don't live in Palmers Green any more (I used to live in Park Avenue). I miss the Kurdish and Turkish supermarkets, though — are they still there? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:01, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

History[edit]

I have edited a paragraph which was of a considerably partial nature:

"Today it is a leafy, residential suburb just north of Wood Green. It has now become very popular with young families spilling over from Muswell Hill due to its very large Victorian terraced houses with big gardens. The local primary school had an "outstanding" report from ofsted in 2008. Pick of the roads are Elvendon Road and Natal Road. It's a quiet, leafy, up and coming area with its own tennis club!".

Replacing it with:

"Currently the area is mostly residential with prominent greenery, it is situated north of Wood Green. It has now become very popular with young families spilling over from Muswell Hill due to its very large Victorian terraced houses with relatively large gardens[citation needed]. The local primary school had an "outstanding" report from ofsted in 2008[citation needed].".

There is no evidence of 'spilling over' provided and neither for the justification of it; I would personally reckon that any change in population due to this matter would be because of the relatively cheap housing in comparison to the Muswell Hill area. The 'local primary school' could be one of many in the whole town and no citation is provided. Can anyone tell me which school this is in reference to? 'tennis club!' and the mention of two significantly small roads seems to be driven by a bias view of the content editor, hence I have removed these.

palmers green today[edit]

don't you fucking dare delete this section again mel. You can't delete a section without any reason on the discussion page or in the edit summary, a section which is 100% true, a section written in brisk NPOV manner and intended to provide up-to-date information in an article that lacks it, a short article in need of expansion, not irrational reactionary preservation. I added info on what makes Palmers Green different from other similar areas, as per several wikipedia guidelines and policies and the spirit of an inclusive encyclopedia of notable entries. --86.143.171.239 12:42, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just like to point out that Bounds Green tube station is closer to Palmers Green that SOuthgate tube station by a long shot. and also, the Fox looks nice on the outside but isn't that great really. the new wetherspoons is really where people go in Palmers Green, called the Alfred Herring

Bounds Green tube station is closer to Palmers Green than Southgate tube station is, but it is not by a 'long shot', because the top of Fox Lane is in Palmers Green. Coyets 15:24, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As the crow flies, the distance between Southgate Station and Palmers Green Rail Station is approximately 200m more than that from Bounds Green Station to Palmers Green Rail Station. Bounds Green is slightly under 1km, and is almost exactly the same distance as Arnos Grove Underground Station is from Palmers Green Rail Station; it is practically equidistance between Bounds Green and Arnos Grove. Southgate Underground Station is roughly 1.2km in distance from Palmers Green. This can all be measured and verified using various maps/map utilities such as Google Maps or even your own map/OS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.83.1.244 (talk) 14:57, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greek/Turkish Cypriot population[edit]

I'm not sure that the claim in the first paragraph about PG having the largest Cypriot population outside Cyprus is true. Certainly I can find nothing to confirm this. Even if it were true I'm not sure that this is such a defining characteristic of the place to warrant mention in the summary paragraph. If nobody can provide any evidence of this I'll remove the claim in a few days. It can always go back in if a proper reference is found. 212.188.166.125 (talk) 18:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
