Male dominance[edit]

Is it the case that everyone on this list is male? Memenen 02:21, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Added Julie Bell to break the mold, I guess it's not an all-male page anymore... ;-) I don't think that was on purpose, the editors who added names just couldn't think of any lady artists at the time.

Improvements[edit]

I have changed the title to include fantasy, as most of the SF artists cross over to fantasy. artists can be categorized as one or the other. I have included awards, but the list could also include dob/dod, and a word or two on what they are best known for (tolkein, hard sf, a book series, period active, etc)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 19:28, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, "Artists who have won the Hugo Award, the World Fantasy Award, or the Chesley Award are noted, as are inductees into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame." Should we also include Rotsler Award winners? --Orange Mike | Talk 18:23, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Here's a list of winners. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:16, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We might also consider adding the Frank R Paul Award -- details and winners at SF Encyclopedia. Added Victoria Poyser based on that, since we're still short of female artists. --Pete Tillman (talk) 19:19, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup: add cites, remove non-notables[edit]

I've cited redlinks who have substantial bibliographies of published art at ISFDB, and removed those who had no ISFDB listing. Put any back who can be shown to be eligible for wiki-notability.

Note that Henry Austin (artist) does have a listing: [1] -- but for just 2 illos, apparently from the late 19th century. Probably not notable, but I'm open to reconsider....

You'll also see a batch of new PD illos to spice up the list a bit <G> --- I partic like that wisp of water over the nips of the Mermaid of Maricot Deep.... Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:04, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notable artists only, please![edit]

Just a reminder -- please add ONLY wiki-Notable people. Ideally they would already have a wikibio published. If not, consider writing one. At a minimum, please provide a citation to proof of WP:NOTABLE status. Thanks! --Pete Tillman (talk) 23:36, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removed another batch, all by one anonymous. Please don't do this! --Pete Tillman (talk) 03:50, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert Rogers and Ed Cartier were influential science fiction artists in the 1940's, especially the pages of Astounding Science Fiction , don't see them. aajacksoniv (talk) 09:57, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
