New image[edit]

Would anybody object if I replaced the example image with this image?

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the current image, but I think this one does a better job of illustrating the abilities of the program. And frankly, it's prettier.

Perhaps a screenshot would be appropriate as well?

Sounds ok to me. If some more people agree as well, I'd say, go ahead! --134.93.144.67 09:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Ralph Feltens[reply]
I went ahead and made a "gallery" of images, and put yours in there. I might post one of my own, when I get around to it. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 07:39, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other uses[edit]

Term "apophysis" has much more important and older meanings. It's used in paleontology and structural geology. Siim 09:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's also a term used in human anatomy. --Antelan 05:40, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest this page be moved to Apophysis (program) and then have a disambiguation page at Apophysis. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:29, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree, once we have gathered enough information to start articles on the other (or at least AN other) topics. Also, I propose that the new article name be Apophysis (software) instead of Apophysis (program) to resolve potential ambiguities. ~ Oni Lukos ct 21:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to actually have an article on a subject to have a disambiguation page point to it. The disambiguation page serves as a placeholder, and prevents confusion. Apophysis (software) sounds good. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:17, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's been moved, and I started a disambiguation page at the old location. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 05:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can i give this[edit]

image to the community ? TulipVorlax 10:30, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, i've added it. And another one. They are pretty big and high quality. I think it show well that Apophysis can do greats things. The last image has taken 2 hours 56 minutes 46.42 seconds at quality 4000 oversampling 8.... TulipVorlax 03:36, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Apophysis.png[edit]

Image:Apophysis.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Can I insert info on...[edit]

The ApoMap palette editor? It's used to edit/create gradients for the Apophysis program, and I think people would like to know that it exists. MrSpectacles (talk) 15:43, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

"It was created by Mark Townsend by translating Scott Draves' original C code into Delphi and adding a graphical user interface. It has since been improved and updated by Peter Sdobnov, Piotr Borys, and Ronald Hordijk"

Does anyone know when the events referred to here occurred? I guess I should put a citation needed sign up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dranorter (talkcontribs) 17:25, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually...[edit]

"It was created by Mark Townsend by translating Scott Draves' original C code into Delphi and adding a graphical user interface. It has since been improved and updated by Peter Sdobnov, Piotr Borys, and Ronald Hordijk"

If I remember correctly, it was Ronald Hordijk who translated Scott Draves' original C code into Delphi, to make "Fractal Flame Screensaver". And only then, Mark Townsend made Apophysis using Ronald's renderer code.

"Apophysis has also recently been modified to create fractals that looks like 3D, although all computations are done in 2D space."

This is not correct ofcourse, all computations are done in 3D space :) Apophysis "3D hack" only lacks a proper 3D editor... Zueuk (talk) 05:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

3d version verification[edit]

I would like to see a disambiguation thread or citation for 'There is a separate version of Apophysis that has support for 3D'. I find various pages with 3d hack resources but no mention of a 3d version on external links. What is the status of 3d hack? Is it community resources that add to the program or an actual separate version? Fozforic (talk) 18:28, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

actual separate version. Here you can see the two versions: http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=apophysis&platformSelect=Windows&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows Spot (talk) 17:34, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does it appear anywhere other than Cnet? I refuse to use their site. Fozforic (talk) 16:30, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Downloading 3dhack from that link trips my antivirus. Says its a trojan; backdoor virus Fozforic (talk) 16:33, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
