Serving as CBS News' chief Washington correspondent since 1982. On October 13, 2004, he moderated the third presidential debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry. He is also fair and balanced moderator, and made no mistakes during a course of debate.

NPOV re: Rather and Rathergate[edit]

There is no denying that Dan Rather and friends made big mistakes surrounding the fake TANG memos on 60 Minutes. That being said, stating emphatically in Bob Schieffer's Wiki that Rather's resignation was because of Rathergate is disingenuous and doesn't belong in an NPOV environment. --AStanhope 20:42, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Bob's Name[edit]

Contrary to popular opinion, Bob's name is in fact "BOB", not "ROBERT".

Then why does the section on his youth refer to him as Robert Lloyd "Bob" Schieffer? Can anyone definitively ascertain that his given first name is indeed Bob?--ChasFink (talk) 19:21, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems the Roberting has been expanded by an anonymous user. I've looked far and wide, but can't find any reference to a Robert Lloyd Schieffer anywhere else. I can find many references to Bob Lloyd Schieffer, as well as an often repeated line about how his birth name is not Robert. I'm changing it to Bob throughout.--ChasFink (talk) 18:21, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Signed new long-term contract (June 19, 2008)[edit]

this newsman will be continuing beyond the fall elections: "Bob Schieffer and CBS News have entered into a new long-term agreement, it was announced today by Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports. Schieffer is the network's Chief Washington Correspondent and is anchor of "Face The Nation." He will also continue to contribute to the "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" and "The Early Show," as well as to CBS News’ political and Campaign ’08 coverage.

"Bob has been an integral part of our coverage of Washington - and especially politics - for nearly 40 years," said McManus. "He is one of the most respected journalists in our business and is a favorite with viewers around the country. I’m extremely pleased that Bob will continue to play a key role at CBS News for years to come."

Schieffer is one of the few broadcast or print journalists to have covered all four major beats in the nation's capital - the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill. He has been CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent since 1982 and has covered every presidential campaign and been a floor reporter at all of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions since 1972. He began anchoring "Face The Nation" in May 1991.

"I like working for Sean McManus and I have great admiration for his vision for CBS News,” said Schieffer. “I am happy that I’ll continue to be part of his team for many years to come.” from http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/19/ftn/main4109019.shtml Timothy J. Wow, this artice is short for a living legend![edit]

As I recall there were a lot of stories about how ratings at CBS increased and I think took over the #1 spot when he took over as anchor. It seems he was never seen as "young" or "hip" enough by the suits. What a pity, because Schieffer is outstanding, sharp, fair, funny and a heck of a kind hearted and decent man. Thanks for all your hard work Bob! I'm going to try to add some of your fine work into this article.(Wallamoose (talk) 01:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]
