Should be merged with thermal conductivity ?

Not sure. Have changed it to disambig for the moment. Biscuittin (talk) 02:14, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Definitions[edit]

Are Thermal conductance and Thermal conductivity the same thing? I think they are but the article Thermal conductivity seems to suggest not. Expert opinions needed. Biscuittin (talk) 08:44, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A good description is given here. A closer look to the units announce that there is a difference: Stonovic (talk) 13:50, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thermal conductivity [W/(m·K )] is the quantity of heat transmitted, due to unit temperature gradient, in unit time under steady conditions in a direction normal to a surface of unit area, when the heat transfer is dependent only on the temperature gradient. The thermal conductivity of a system is determined by how molecules comprising the system interact.
  • Thermal conductance [W / K ] is the quantity of heat that passes in unit time through a plate of particular area and thickness when its opposite faces differ in temperature by one degree. For a plate of thermal conductivity λ, area A and thickness L this is λA/L.

Requested move 10 February 2024[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Not enough participation for a solid close, can be re-opened later if needed. A redirect from Thermal conduct to the dab would probably be okay. (closed by non-admin page mover) ASUKITE 16:48, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thermal conductancethermal conduct – Thermal conductance is power divided by temperature. JoshuaAuble (talk) 05:33, 10 February 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 15:07, 18 February 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 05:16, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: I don't really understand your argument, but in any case no one uses the term 'thermal conduct'. YorkshireExpat (talk) 10:56, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My argument is thermal conductance is power divided by temperature so we should rename this to something else like 'thermal conduction (disambiguation)', 'thermal conductivity (disambig)', etc. JoshuaAuble (talk) 04:12, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see! Digging around the Internet, 'thermal conduct' seems to be a noun type construct that could refer to a thing i.e. some tape or paste doing the thermal conducting. Not sure that's the right name in that case. One of your dab terms may be better. YorkshireExpat (talk) 08:59, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
