Oxford Journal on Good Governance[edit]

Promo for a journal which just published Volume 1, Number 1, published by the Oxford Council on Good Governance. Website disclaimer: "We are not affiliated with or sponsored by the University of Oxford, the Oxfordshire County Council, or the Oxford City Council". Anonymous editor has salted other articles with links to oxfordgovernance.org. Wile E. Heresiarch 15:53, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I agree, at the same time, for having just published one issue, they have really made their mark. With so many high level backers, they are already attracting a fair bit of attention, so an article on Wiki would be good. Just my naive view. - XmX -- Note: This appears to be 62.49.1.106's only edit.
  • Delete: It's quite possible that we will need an article later, but the apparent page rank boosting of infinite scatters through Wikipedia bodes ill. Inasmuch as this is a secondary source of information, we may be less out of date than other encyclopedias, but we still have to let the world speak and determine the priorities. It is not a venue for breaking news (despite the In the News box on the main page) nor announcements. At this point, the journal is not yet notable, even if it is anticipated. This journal has had a great start and looks very promising, so why this urge to delete it? If there is something the world urgently needs, it is people who think about how to improve the way we run things. Marie S.

Assume for the sake of argument that the OJGG is indeed urgently needed by the world. Does this mean that the Yellow Pages should be running a full-page editorial on the OJGG and how good it is? The obvious answer is no, that no matter how good and needed the OJGG is, the Yellow Pages is not in the business of publishing editorials -- only addresses and phone numbers. By the same token, we frequently run into those who offer, as a reason why this page or another should be kept, arguments about how notable the person/publication/organization/program deserves to be. But Wikipedia is in the business of reflecting what is notable, not in creating that notability. No matter how deserved notability is, creating it is not what we're here for.
  • Delete, anything that means I'll be able to stop removing some anonymous editor's Asle Toje campaign from this is good. --fvw* 23:03, 2004 Nov 25 (UTC)
  • Delete. Unless and until there is some objective evidence that the OJGG has notability, high-level backers, or even Wikipedia supporters willing to use their names, delete. That it was able to get Cris Patten's name on an article is a good sign, but I say give it a half-dozen issues at least before even considering it. --Calton 07:07, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. If the Oxford Council on Good Governance gets a mention on Wikipedia we dont need a seperate article on every journal it publishes and everyone who holds a post in it. (Unless they have become notable in their own right) Lumos3 09:08, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep as a separate article CC
  • This journal has just in one issue done more than many other journals have done in a lifetime. Keep it.
    • Then it shouldn't be any great difficulty to add the information on what it's done in that one issue that makes it so notable to the article. -- Antaeus Feldspar 03:52, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
