Yumiko Fujita, not to be mistaken with the Japanese actressFujita Yumiko, is a Communication undergraduate student at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in Honolulu, HI.

Yumiko Fujita was born in 1978 at the University of California San Francisco Children's Hospital to Yuriko Fujita and Yoshiharu Fujita and to older brother, Jun Fujita, 5 1/2 years her senior. Her name in kanji is a combination of her mother and father's names.

For fourteen years, she lived in the Japantown area of San Francisco, a block away from her mother's store. Most of her childhood activities took place in the neighboring area as her preschool and elementary after-school programs were located within a few blocks from her home.

She attended Clarendon Alternative Elementary School where she was fortunate enough to be enrolled in the Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program which taught its curriculum primarily in English but was supplemented in learning Japanese language as well as culture.

For middle school, she attended Herbert Hoover Middle school where for three years, she played flute in the school band as well as took part in putting together the school yearbook.

Her first year of high school was spent at the prestigious Lowell High School, but after her mother's re-marriage, moved to San Mateo High School.

After graduating from high school, Yumiko attended first San Francisco State University then the College of San Mateo for her general education credits while working at a staffing agency for 3 years. Not being able to decide on a major at the time, she took a break from school and decide to move to Hawai'i for a change of scenery.

Once in Hawai'i, she continued her career in the staffing industry and worked for another agency, ALTRES, for another 3 years. By that time, she was again, in need of another change and decided to go back to school.

She has been enrolled in the University of Hawai'i since the Spring of 2003 and will be graduating in the Fall of 2005.
