Should

Should this be a redirect to cerebrovascular accident? I understand that the term is sometimes used to refer to something else, but that is unusual, is it not? Besides, this really seems like a dictionary definition. --Timc 03:29, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Sorry for my being dumb, Dr. Wolff, but I genuinely don't get it.

The 2 statements are not identical. Is Apoplexy the "losing of consciousness" part or the "vascular compromise" part ? Must have both to call it an apoplexy ?

I've heard "apoplexy" used to mean the sudden loss of consciousness / neurological function in a mild epileptic incident (more than a 'petit mal', I suppose ?), i.e. no vascular compromise, not a stroke. Right or wrong use of the word here ?

Not only is the word obsolete, in older references it usually describes only the symptom of sudden collapse, not the condition causing the collapse. ANYTHING that could cause a sudden collapse leading to death - a thrombotic stroke, a hemorrhagic stroke, a ruptured berry aneurysm, a sudden and severe heart attack, a ruptured aortic aneurysm, etc., etc. - could have been called "apoplexy" in the old days, and especially before 1800, when autopsies were rare. This article should really point out that historically, "apoplexy" often described a symptom and not a disease process. --Charlene 04:10, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

List

What is the point of the list? Many people were recorded as dying of apoplexy? Famous and non-famous people who died of apoplexy? There is probably already a category for this - it seems pointless to list numerous people here.Parkwells (talk) 13:20, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Also, some of the people on the list, for example Louise May Alcott, died of stroke, not Apoplexy, according to their individual article. Because of this, and the ambiguity of the use of the term, I do not see the value of the list. Bobsd (talk) 05:54, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Agree, since apoplexy is more or less a stroke, a very common cause of death, this seems a pointless list that could run to many pages. I propose to cut it. Onanoff (talk) 12:11, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Also agree - if we tried to list deaths from say, tuberculosis, we could fill many volumes. Such a poorly documented list of un-notable persons just doesn't belong here. I'm going to be bold and delete the whole thing - though I suspect it'll trigger self-appointed watchdogs who monitor large deletions, and summarily revert them. Historical Term

Um HELLO! I'm new to this editing thing, but I'm just jumping in without any REAL credentials.

I was just reading about the etymology of the term, and it occurred to me that historically, due to differences in DIET, choking was far more common than stroke, or heart attack.
