Blackface[edit]

Hi Friejose. Thanks for your wikification of the Bacup page. However I'm removing the internal link to Blackface because I think it is (unintentionally) highly misleading. The wikipedia entry on Blackface is with regard to "a style of theatrical makeup that originated in the United States, used to affect the countenance of an iconic, racist American archetype...". This is by no means the likely root or intent of the blackened faces used by the Bacup Coco-nut Dancers. Although the origin appears to be unknown, one of the most frequently alluded to associations is with Cornish coal-miners; the blackened face derived from the grime covered faces of the miners. Whether this is true or not the connection is more likely to relate to the many European folk custom traditions where black face stems from representations of winter, the dark season. An origin derived from racial imagery is highly unlikely in this context. Bobf 14:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Responded on Bobf's talk page, thanks for the head's up. Friejose 18:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we'll see if your internal link within Bacup gets picked up by anyone. It's fine by me but I've come to realise that the Blackface definition is a miserable hotbed of dissenting opinions, though it seems to have calmed down lately. Best wishes Bob (talk) 16:31, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

F in E template[edit]

Clearly I was thinking of something else, feel free to put it back, and please accept my apologies..... ChrisTheDude 12:54, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick response and I've put it in back in the Spennymoor United F.C. article. Friejose 13:05, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boston edits[edit]

Hey there. Thanks for the comment on the recent "Gamma class" edits. I agree that I'm probably a bad editor and have a habit of going through what I know as procedures without as much explanation as some very kind, far more experienced editors have offered me (although I can also say that, when I've run into trouble, I've tried to find out more ASAP). I let Quentin know what I think on the matter, though I'd certainly defer to more knowledgable users here. I was more concerned that Quentin seemed more a self-promoter of ideas than someone seriously interested in improving the Boston article, and am more than willing to discuss it further. Thanks again! Aepoutre 20:44, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it's not too big a deal. I agree with the concerns other editors have raised, but do admit that I probably did just about as a bad job of explaining my reverts as the "gamma" editor did in explaining his edits. Thanks again for the input! Aepoutre 19:25, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The blog is not reliable per our guidelines. The blog is a POV piece, and statements souced by it have been removed. - Rjd0060 (talk) 18:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I responded on your talk page. The point is moot, as I changed the article to cite to a piece from The Guardian, which should allay everyone's concerns, but I still think people have missed the point that the blog was cited for the proposition that certain people didn't like the takeover idea, like the author of the blog cited, not to prove a fact. Friejose (talk) 18:31, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your message. No worries as I see you have now added the Guardian article as the source anyway. Though I do understand your reasoning behind using the blog as a source. At least now having the Guardian article though should resolve it, have fun. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 22:58, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grundy Hill photo: Copyright[edit]

Hi

On the Grundy Hill postcard shot you say you can't identify the copyright holder. It's actually identified on the back as me.

Colin Peel - www.peelpublishing.co.uk

The card is still available —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.1.38 (talk) 12:04, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have your permission to use the photo? I hope so, as I could find no other photo available of the Grundy Hill ground. And I am the proud owner the postcard already! -- Friejose (talk) 15:42, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Inter-baku.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Inter-baku.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:40, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I responded on Sfan00 IMG's talk page, this gist of which was that the image is indeed on the appropriate page. --Friejose (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Masilli out, NBC Salyan in[edit]

I saw that you added NBC Salyan to the Standings of the Azerbaijan Premier League 2008-09. Could you please add a sentence and a reference on the team change in the "team changes" section as well? I would then take care about the correction of the results table, as it currently only has 13 teams. Thanks, Hockey-holic (talk) 21:01, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Per your request, I added a line in team changes, with a cite, regarding NBC Salyan replacing FK Masallı in the Azerbaijan Premier League this season. I've also updated the appropriate template and the main League article. I'm also created an article for the club itself and a club template. Yes, I've done no work recently! -- Friejose (talk) 21:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC) (Cross-posted from Hockey-holic's talk page.)[reply]
Thanks a lot!!! Hockey-holic (talk) 21:30, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Baku thing[edit]

Re: your comment on my talkpage. I removed the statement about the fire being turned on/off because the source being cited for it didn't say anything to that effect. Re-add it if you want; just don't source it. :) -- Fullstop (talk) 13:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Azerbaijani football squad templates, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Azerbaijani football squad templates is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Azerbaijani football squad templates, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Maslenkin.Anatolii.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 02:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]

File source problem with File:Sun-first.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sun-first.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. Orphaned non-free image File:Bunyodkor logo.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Bunyodkor logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

File copyright problem with File:Grundy Hill.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Grundy Hill.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:59, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Antoniomariacosta-200.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Antoniomariacosta-200.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
