I removed the phrase: <<It is similar in sound and rhythm to Salsa music>> since there are more distinctions than similarities. Salsa and Merengue may seem similar just like Bach an Mozart sound similar for those who don't care.

I removed the reference to meringue being a Puerto Rican invention, as there's nothing about that on the meringue page. That's assuming it was referring to the same thing? sjorford 15:32, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The basis of merengue is from the island of hispanolia. It's roots are thought to be of Dominican or Haitian origin. It is popular on both sides of the island. What is the disagreement? 66.108.180.176 07:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
