Glen Davis[edit]

I find the Wikipedia pretty useful, so I felt as though I should give back. I have lots of interests, but my expertise lies in Pentecostalism, the Assemblies of God, and university Christian ministries such as Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and Campus Crusade for Christ. Hey, Im a student and over the last couple of weeks Ive been coming on here just browsing around and being totally impressed that this could all be done through people's hard work.

I'll only add stuff which I know is 100% correct and had a go earlier without joining. Since I added popex someone has already updated it. So impressed with this. Also sorry about the spelling mistakes, as i am most lazy.

Thats it for me really

thanks for reading DaveLewis 00:49, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Native of Muncie, Indiana, working in Chicago, just playing the never-ending game of keeping up to speed on Internet trends, communities, services, culture! I intend to work on a little watchlist for myself, and start out by keeping track of a small subset of the growth on here. If I notice inaccuracies, I'll try to fix. Eventually I may post a few of my own creations. I'm also thinking about the permanence of the User: pages... considering keeping my active internet-wide "profile" located on my Wikipedia user page.

Icenine0[edit]

Hey everybody. 20 years old, I'm a computer science major and run a small business in Salt Lake City, UT. I'm absolutely fascinated by this site and consider it one of the world's greatest social experiments. Copyediting is my speciality -- keeps my English skills honed. :)

Thanks for reading and see you around!

Tranceraph[edit]

I'm a 17-year-old writer, musician, artist and photographer from New York. Hoping that college will provide me real opportunities to do what I want to do rather than what some stupid teacher tells me to...

Just got started on Wiki, but it's really awesome. I wrote on Everything2 a bit but found it's just too informal and random to really be taken seriously, whereas this is clearly a real, professional undertaking. Your web design is beautiful, too!

I'm a huge music person, and listen to just about anything except for country and rap; favorite artists range from Tool & A Perfect Circle to Delerium, Enigma and Loreena McKennitt. I guarantee I can show you some incredible music you've never heard of... just drop me a line :)

I'm very fun to talk to and try my best to know as much as I can about everything... feel free to message me!

Alikhtarov[edit]

Wow, that's some cool project! I really like it. English happens not to be my native language (I'm Russian, but I live in Canada), so watch my edits closely :)

Well, see you around!

SousaFan88[edit]

John Philip Sousa rules! I love music, the military, cooking, movies.. Yes, all very different things. Most of my Wikipedia contributions are based on march music. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of marches as well as learn what I have no knowledge of yet. My goal is to enlighten this near-forgetten piece of American music. DanaJohnson[edit]

I actually stuck a bunch of bio-type information on my 'user page'. I've used the Wikipedia as a resource for ages, and I've even done a little writing and editing at times, here and there, anonymously. Hi! Dana 04:58, Jun 1, 2004 (UTC)

Snathaidmhor[edit]

You know what they say about ideas: sometimes, an idea's time has come. I had been interested in creating a free, online, community-driven, informational and how-to Web site for more than 6 years; I should have started my project sooner. I found Wikipedia a couple of months ago and have been hooked ever since. I would love to see Wikipedia expand to include how-tos wherever possible. Wikipedia looks wonderful! I'm looking forward to working with others on this great project.

Welcome! Wikimedia already provides for howtos in the form of the Wikipedia sister project Wikibooks. Dori | Talk 03:05, Jun 2, 2004 (UTC)

Hi everyone,

I'm Colin. I'm 26, a Georgia State University undergrad majoring in Philosophy, minoring in History. I've also done a ton of work with computers, I have a bit of musical knowledge, and I suppose I know a bit about lots of other things. In my studies, I've found Wikipedia to be a fantastic resource. Occasionally I'll see something that needs to be fixed or added to, so I figured I'd come and help out.

Tiffer[edit]

Hello, I'm Antony Rawlinson - I wanted the user name 'Antony' but it was taken - Grrr!

I heard about Wikipedia through Esperanto: I had a visitor who is very active in the Esperanto language Wiki, who came to London for a Wikipedia conference!

Of course, he wanted to encourage the Wikipedia in Esperanto, but doesn't object to me taking part in the English language one. I've already contributed to the Esperanto and Aquatic Ape Theory articles. --Tiffer 21:33, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks to Jrdioko and Jwrosenzweig who welcomed me within 12 hours of my posting. It's great to have a sense of community among the users and contributors here! --Tiffer 09:11, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Bernie Flint[edit]

I've used Wikipedia for a while, so I should have introduced myself before.

I am in my mid-thirties and live in south England and am a Company Director (software). I am a Chartered Accountant (UK similar to US CPA) and have a Masters degree in Earth Sciences (Oxford University). I have a passion for many things including archaeology, astronomy, history and natural history.

I hope to contribute more in the future.

AFool[edit]

I've been coming here for some time now to read about all kind of things. However, since i never felt that there was anything i could add i didnt bother to create an account. Today i found something, so here i am. I think wikipedia is fantastic, though i'd never have thought a site like this could work. For what its worth i salute all people who contribute to making it work!

I'm a housedad, publisher, writer & technical illustrator. I heard an article about Wikipedia on NPR, and have found it useful. When I found a couple of niches where I knew I could add, I did so. I've lived an odd and varied life, and I'm sure bits of things I know will be useful to other people. It's a great place. TJ 19:27, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Jenn Dolari[edit]

Found this place when Tualha added one of my comics (Closetspace) to the Wiki. I've been poking around here and there since, mostly ont he Star Trek pages, but just little bits everywhere since January. Got an account about a month ago, and have been pretty active since. My User page has a my "official bio," but I'm also an Internet Old Timer, with a love of video games, sci-fi, writing and illustrating, and men who aren't afraid to cry. :) Jenn Dolari 04:07, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Graduate student, bon vivant, and man-about-town looking to help out what seems to be a great cause. I'm really impressed with the sense of community that's developed around Wikipedia, and amazed at how well the Wiki metaphor just works. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Interests vary wildly, but my areas of "expertise" (if you can call them that) are computer architecture, computer engineering, and Ultimate (and to a lesser extent, all those other sports too). I dabble in all kinds of stuff, though, and I don't mind doing a little dirty copyed work either. I've been here for a couple of weeks, and I've picked up a couple things off cleanup already. Looking forward to contributing more! -- Bcordes 17:35, Jun 16, 2004 (UTC)

Davidalanreese[edit]

Hi Everyone. I'm Dave. I'm 39 years old and live in Dallas, TX with my wife and 4 dogs. I've lived in Dallas all my life and even went to college here at the University of Texas at Dallas, getting a B.A. in American Studies. I went to graduate school for a year with a goal of getting a Masters degree in Literary Studies when my part time job working for an ISP just kinda took off. 7 years and three buy-outs latter the company I worked for had gone from a little Dallas ISP with 2000 customers to an international company with over 1500 employees and 100, 000 total customers while I had moved from part-time night call-in tech support to become the Director of Customer Support with over 200 employees working for me. Then the decided I was too much of a pain in the butt (probably fairly, too) and fired me in a re-orginization. Since then I've decided to dedicate myself back to writing but I try to stay up on technical issues. Aside from writing and books, I'm also have an eclectic set of interests and areas of knowledge which include various sports, politics, history, sociology, anthropology, and film. I first came across the Wikipedia site after doing a Google search on some since forgotten subject. Since then I've been just reading all over the site. This is a very cool project. I do have some qualms when I read through some pages and see some statements that I think are overstated, unsubstantiated and just plain wrong - I can't help it, if you hang out in an academic environment long enough there are certain conventions like sources and citations that become important; but I think part of what's cool is that the community environment, the free access to editing, and the promotion of discussion for resolution of dispute and promotion of discussion might, in the end, provide a living breathing document that can be as accurate and intellectually honest as any traditional academic environment while also being free for anyone with a computer and 'net access. I look forward to talking and working on articles with everyone --Davidalanreese 23:55, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

dr.frog[edit]

I originally found this site while doing web searches. I'm a software engineer (aka compiler hacker) by profession, but I've been filling in a few pages related to random reading and other hobbies. I have my own web site devoted to figure skating and frogs, and figure skating frogs, at frogsonice.com.

TalaDeVera[edit]

Hi. I found Wikipedia approxiamtely 2 years ago through a Google search for an Introduction to Computer Science class. I am interested in how it works and how I can host my own Wiki-type personal site. What programming languages does it require? I am a computer science student from the Philippines, interested in Java, Fibonacci's sequence, The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, as well as the Question. I am also interested in The Golden Mean Phi, the number Pi, and most recently, the number 47. I am hoping to make my first article on Wikipedia about the 47 Society soon. 202.164.165.88 06:48, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Jason Clark[edit]

I am very impressed by the wikipedia. In particular, the accuracy and "editorial professionalism" expressed in the topics. I also find contributing to it enjoyable. I am interested in CS topics along with other random topics such as politics, philosophy, science and religion.

I learned of the wikipedia from a friend. He and I recently “invented” an entertaining wikipedia game. We select two topics from the random page, and see who can get from one topic to the next first, by linking (date-pages and list-of pages are not allowed). It is sort of a “six-degrees of wikipedia” race. Extra gusto to the racer that comes up with the shortest path :)

Onebit 17:31, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)

Great idea. And I hope the penalty for the loser is to add enough links to shorten the shortest path still further (date and lists, etc, should then be allowed). Welcome to WP, anyway!! Robin Patterson 01:14, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Pasquale[edit]

I am a Harvard-trained linguist, with a specialty in Historical Linguistics. As a long-time refugee from Academia, I earn my keep as a software localization specialist and technical translator. I have already made numerous anonymous contributions to Wikipedia, as 140.239.85.68, but I was getting a sense that anonymous contributions are discreetly frowned upon, so I decided to become a registered user.

Kevin Mulrooney[edit]

I first ended up at Wikipedia following some links on the topic of Nice Guy Syndrome, which entry was at that moment in the midst of revising. So far it seems both exciting to read all the entries but also bewildering and confusing with all the corrections, edits, etc. I'm 47 and have been a freelance book indexer about 15 years, along with being a self-published writer of a book on treasure hunting/and metal detecting, soon to go into a 4th edition after 10 years. In a former life I was a chemical engineer with DuPont. I live in Newark Delaware. I am looking forward to participating and making edits and possibly adding some new articles.

Dina[edit]

I run a pub quiz in Somerville MA and find wikipedia invaluable for coming up with ideas and information for questions. Professionally I work for a regional theater as a production manager and so from time to time have edited pages concerning mostly topics related to that... Dina 00:49, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Asim Led[edit]

I don't even remember how I first found out about wikipedia, but it has been very useful for me and everyone else who I know knows about it. I decided to sign up, simply, because I wanted to contribute and better the wiki pages on my home country, Bosnia. So far my only major contributions are the FK Sarajevo and Sarajevo.

Lisa Paul[edit]

I've used Wikipedia as a reference for years now. I have plenty of searching/copyediting skills, but way too many interests to list. I've listed myself on the German and Spanish Wikipedia:Translation into English pages, but you can also expect to see me correcting random typos and punctuation all over the place. Lisa Paul 17:15, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Pyrop[edit]

I mostly registered because i was making a lot of tiny typo corrections and figured i should register so i could make them "minor edits". Heh. -- Pyrop

Fascinating social experiment[edit]

I was both fascinated by and sceptical of the Wiki concept. Have read many arguments for and against and still feel skeptical. I guess though it all comes down to this: People like to do good things and to protect what they create. The success of Wikipedia so far is a testament to the power of human creativity.

A question remains: Would Wiki succeed if there was no "community"? Is the Wiki Community an essential part of the Wiki model?

Congratulations on getting this far. I'm glad to be a part of it.

Mindspillage[edit]

Greetings! I'm Kat Walsh, a 21-year-old student (music and math), who's been using Wikipedia for a while, edited once, but didn't get absorbed into it until now. My main interests are music theory, bassoon, 20th century music, logic, and science fiction. I also enjoy fixing typos. Really. And if I had finished this sentence,

Mindspillage 04:25, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi all. I have been using wikipedia for a while but didn't realize until recently that users can contribute towards the article (stupid me). I thought the math sections are especially well-written, but there are certain pockets of knowledge I am interested in that are missing from Wikipedia. So I have decided to join the community to help in this project. I am a computer science grad student from Singapore studying in the United States. Cheers!

PisspunkDK[edit]

I'm new to Wikipedia, but it appears to be one of the best resources I've found in a while! The open source environment is like all information should be - down with censorship!

I know a lot about anarcho-syndicalism and it's related issues, and I'm also very interested in litterature, music and military hardware - punk rock and related history are a particular forté ;)

DanielCD[edit]

Hello. I have also been using this encyclopedia a while, but have only recently discovered I could make changes. I think Wikipedia is another little step in the evolving communication means of humanity, forever improving (for better or worse). My areas of expertise are in the general sciences, chiefly environmental science and chemistry, English literature and grammar, philosophy and history (mostly WWII and ancient). I also like mysticism and religion topics. Wikipedia also gives me an excuse to research things I'm interested in, and helps me with my writing skills. --DanielCD 15:06, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Caroline Thompson[edit]

I hope others won't mind but I have studied some facts about certain quantum theory experiments, working from original papers and PhD theses, and discovered things that I feel others have a right to be told. The facts are officially "well known" but in practice hardly known at all. The subject is rather specialist -- "quantum entanglement" -- and yet is of some interest to many, since if it really happens it means we cannot trust our intuition: "local realism" doesn't work on the "quantum" level. My studies have shown that the experts know that they have not yet shown anything like this. Caroline Thompson 22:37, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I found out about this service from a group called exsat, a yahoo group. Someone was asking for an objective article about Radhasoami Satsang. So I put together a couple of essays I had written and came up with an objective essay/article. This is difficult to do in light of my attachment and detachment both from this group.

thank you
