Hello. I've been horribly addicted to this for the last few days, clocking up more than ten hours each time. So, no doubt I'll be in need of some kind of medical attention soon enough.
I'm interested in comedy, so I've been making lots of submissions along those lines. I've already started logging the more substantial contributions at my page.
I'm a trained feature journalist but, due to health problems, I'm concentrating on developing a comedy script/sketch writing career. I've been submitting gags to the BBC and I am gradually building up contacts and weaving a supportive web.
Next week I'll be entering this competition, at which point my genius will be recognised, gorgeous maiden will swoon at my knees and I'll live happily ever after in a mansion made entirely out of caviar - an article, damn it, that I have now just had to edit having seen it.

What a pleasant surprise to find a site like this that *welcomes* newcomers instead of hazing them.
My professional background is in writing, editing and administration for non-profit organizations. I currently do editing and desktop publishing for my church newsletter. I am also an avid musician, now studying the trumpet.
I live in Pasadena, Calif., with my wife and 12-year-old son.
Once I get acclimated, I will share an idea for expanding the effective workforce of open-source enterprises. It turns on the fact that zillions of people (like me) on a fixed disability income are looking for practical ways to contribute to a cause outside themselves. People with the right skills might even be valuable enough to earn a little extra money (not too much) to help cover medications and doctor bills.

- Hello. I have profound health problems. Whether they count as a disability is something I'm trying to establish. For the moment, as far as the British welfare state is concerned, they do not. But I agree with you: the internet gives those with a disability or chronic health problem a new range of opportunities.
- I'll tell you something a little strange: Every day I have an SMS sent to my mobile phone with a horoscope. I don't believe in them but it's free. Last night's message - which I read just ten minutes ago - was "You are a small person in a big world - search for a cause outside yourself", and then I come here and see your second sentence. Hello, I'm from Canada. My areas of speciality are mostly in the computer field. My particular passion is technical aspects of the X86 processor family (Intel, AMD, etc.). I am currently engaged in trying to clean up the overlap between the various articles devoted to this microprocessor family. For example, currently there is a lot of overlap between the articles in X86 and IA-32. What I will attempt to do is remove some of this overlap and have one article link to the other article.

Wikipedia has got to be one of the coolest ideas ever. As an Open Source software developer at Middlebury College by day and a student of life (and the rest of the world) by night, Wikipedia fits right in with my goals of open knowledge for all. So far I have been adding little bits on local topics but plan to add more as I see holes that I can fill. My name is Tyler Slack and I'm looking forward to being a contributor to Wikipedia. I'll most likely start out slow by editing some broken links and adding to a stub or two. I'm sure before long I'll be creating pages and weighing in on the controversial stuff on the Talk pages. What intrigues me about this project is the unbelievable depth of it! A link to just about anything with links from there and links from there and it just continues! The knowledge to be gained is unfathomable. I'm sure I'll learn a lot as I do my best to contribute.
I learned about wicki from my brother several years ago. When I stumbled upon Wikipedia during a google search I was already familiar with the markup due to said introduction. I can already tell this is going to be a bad addiction as several others have stated. Everyone has to have at least one bad habit to kick!

I read about Wikipedia in an article (Newsweek I think) and decided to check it out. I took the advice to "be bold" to heart and jumped right in doing some work on the Buffy pages since I am a big fan of the show. Then, I headed over to the "most wanted articles" page and started in. I have been selecting subjects that I can research on the Web and that interest me. So far, I have done some biographies and a couple of geography articles. I hail from the island of Britain and I have been using Wikipedia for quite some time now, usually when I am bored and fancy learning something new and different, and Wikipedia is excellent for this. Hi, y'all. My name is Brandon and I'm 16 years old. I guess that makes me the baby here. I read all the intros. and the youngest person besides me is a senior in high school, who by now is probably graduated. And since I will only be a junior next year, I take it that I'm the youngest.
Anyway, I stumbled across this site about a month ago trying to find an online free encyclopedia. And what do you know, I found this. The work you guys do is excellent! Being a very curious person by nature, this site is perfect for me; I can learn something new every day.
Being only 16, compared to you guys, my knowledge base is probably not much. But I like to think that I know a good bit about some things. I'm an avid history buff and follow world politics as if I were addicted. I am fluent in English, Spanish, and French. I am in the process of learning Esperanto and Chinese (Mandarin). I play the piano, trumpet, and classical guitar and I know a good bit about religion.
If any of you are wondering how an American 16 year-old knows all these things and has such wide interests, well, the answer is that I'm not American in the typical sense. While my family isn't foreigners (we're African-Americans), I was homeschooled for a good chunk of my educational experience.
Anyways, I'm talking too much. It was nice to meet you all. Thank you for taking the time to contribute to such a worthy cause as this. Really.

I found Wikipedia via google during a search for quanta as it relates to a quote by Albert Einstien. Wonderful Project![edit]
Hello Wikipedians,
I stumbled various times over the Wikipedia-project in magazines (such as DER SPIEGEL) and Internet newspapers. No I finally decided to join in. I don't know how much I can contribute in the near future, but I will surely do later!
I'm at the age of 36, live in Germany and still being a student. I studied mechanical engineering and will finish my diploma during the next weeks. I am interested in all kinds of news (a news junkie, really!) and even more very interested in any kind of dynamic development - just like this. My interests - apart from mechanical engineering (physics and stuff) - are philosophy, sociology, psychology and the like. I love to think about, how things relate to one another. My English may not be the best, so that is for sure one point to be fixed in future (concerning my articles). I have decided deliberately to contribute to the English version, firstly.

I read about Wikipedia in Business Week (31 May). I've spent many hours wandering around writing at Monetary reform and links from it. Also visited and wrote on Political platform .
The DMOZ directory, Google itself, and Wikipedia, are attempting to build universal thinking/research tools for the web. I suppose the forthcoming semantic web is doing the same from the ground up.
"Getting a handle" on the web as a library, is the task. I believe we all owe it to each other and ourselves to try to do as much of the task as possible.
My interest beyond tools like Wikipedia is mainly money and money systems and how to make them turn political democracy into economic democracy.
Two daunting interests. I'll be dead before much progress may be seen. Still the progress made by others so far is remarkable.
I once had a teacher who said there is no upper limit to complexity in nature -- hence complexity in knowledge, thought and language. Yet problems must be solved. And they are -- every day.
I try to offer ideas at [[1]] my own domain. But, large systems like Wikipedia and dmoz and discussion forums are perhaps better places to do this.

Hello everybody, my name is Todd, and I have a problem. I'm addicted to knowledge. Anything in the liberal arts and even applied and theoretical sciences can hold my attention. If it weren't for the need to pay for college, I'd be a student forever. Speaking of which, I'm a political science/international relations and Third World studies double major with a minor in economics at the University of California at San Diego. Since those fields are what I know the most about, I'll probably be spending an inordinate amount of time in the social sciences section of Wikipedia... more likely copy editing than contributing.

Hi, I'm a Philosophy phD student at Oxford University. I have a Ba(Hons) - also from Oxford - in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and I've published one or two little items. My main research interests are metaphysics, logic, mind, personal identity and ethics. I also have a decent level of training in political theory, sociology, economics (especially micro) and Latin American, U.S., British, French, Russian and German politics. I speak English, French, Spanish and Russian.
I found out about Wikipedia surfing the web a year or so ago, and I finally decided to make a few contributions.

I found out about Wikipedia last year through the Google search engine. I saw my first error today ("fontains" for "fountains") and just jumped in. I am a freelance editor and English tutor by vocation. Modern American English is what I know best. I also know a little about gardening, astronomy and general science, history, philosophy, and Eastern culture (particularly Buddhism.)

18 years of age, residing in Bergen, Norway, I just joined the Wikipedia a few days ago. Currently in high school (graduating in a few weeks), my interests are rather comprehensive, my knowledge is not. So far I'm primarily reading and learning, and have edited and created a few pages on local history and culture, literature and video games.
