Untitled[edit]

Glad to see this list... Would really like to see research on growing use of internet forums, including benefits and how to enroll people, who are not very computer communicatino fluent, to begin to be comfortable with and use them.

I'd like to know which one is the best. Not based on price, based on features and ease of use.

It relies on what you need and personal preference. vBulletin, phpBB, and InvisionPowerBoards are the most popular and will probably be the most recommended. They all have simmilar features, each providing it in seperate ways. phpBB is great if you like to get your hands dirty, but vB is good if you like everything out of the box. --Capi crimm 05:13, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why are Slashcode and Scoop not included here? Have I misunderstood something, don't they belong here? I'd insert them myself, except it seems such a surprising omission that I suspect I may have misunderstood something and they don't belong. --QuickFox 15:43, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I found the answer myself. They are considered Information Management Systems rather than Internet Forums. I'm adding links from each of these two to the other, to help people find what they're looking for. --QuickFox 10:30, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm going back and forth on this one, I don't like removing peoples work, but you don't put crackers in the pets isle, because you thought pirates might want them. If you have no complaints I'm taking them out because they are out of place.--Capi crimm 05:13, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why some listings such as DiscussionBoard point to a generic page whereas others such as phpBB and vBulletin point to pages that describe them SLWK 8 Apr 2005 --QuickFox 10:30, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I put links in, which brings me to the point of this edit. I'm removing the links for articles that have wiki-pages. I only put links in because the forums were not wikified. I was originally going to take them out but I was feeling magnanimous. If a forum doesn't have enough of a following to have someone to wikify it I don't think it belongs in this post. So if your going to do anything create wiki articles for the unwikified forums and put the links to the website in there.--Capi crimm

Mass Deletion[edit]

After 31 October 2005 I am going to delete all forum software that has no wiki article. This page is for """common""" internet forum software. That is the only criteria that has been applied to this page so far. Not having a wiki-page signals a forum software as """uncommon""" to me. So unless the following situation happen: (a)someone presents a new criteria on what software should be listed, (b) someone presents a resonable argument as to why a software is common, (c) someone creates wikipages for all of the software. You can expect a weeding to be done of this page. I feel the extra forums present no use besides clutter to the page.
