Images[edit]

FYI: More photos at User:Maveric149/images/Mono Basin. If you use any, then please either drop a note on my talk page or just move the image from the 'Orphan' column to the 'Images that have homes' column. --06:47, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Contradiction?[edit]

Fourth paragraph of "Precursor activity" says there's a gigantic magma chamber under the Mono Craters, and that the activity could be a precursor to building a caldera. Second paragraph of "Volcanic hazards" says that there isn't a single chamber. These seem contradictory. I trust the latter more: it's from a USGS page dated 1999, rather than a book dated 1982. Can this be clarified somehow? Thanks! —hike395 (talk) 03:30, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll look into it. </me hates it when sources disagree> --mav (Urgent FACs/FARs) 03:52, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I looked some more and could not find a good explanation. Part about the Mono Arc and possible caldera development commented out pending an email I sent to the LVO (quoted below).
Greetings - I'm working on the English Wikipedia article about the Mono-Inyo Craters. Two of the sources I'm using (Rinehart 1985, p. 55 ; Wood 1990, p. 231) both state that the Mono Arc and Mono Craters may represent an early stage of caldera development. Yet I can't find any reference to this on your website. I suspect this is due to some research since 1990 that has fairly conclusively excluded that possibility. Would it be possible for you to check to see if this, or something else, is the case? Whatever the case, it would be interesting to note in the Wikipedia article (which is already the first thing to come up in Google searches on the subject). I'd really like to get this right since it is a fairly sensationalistic and interesting fact if true.

No response yet. But I don't think that a large magma chamber under the Mono Arc is excluded by the origin of Mono volcanics being from smaller magma bodies closer to the surface.--mav (Urgent FACs/FARs) 22:35, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Article?[edit]

I know this is the "featured article" for today, but the opening summary needs to be rewritten to adult standards. It is too roughly written. I have not read the rest of the article, but the opening should never have been released as is. I will not taint it by putting a template up but... Feel free to rewrite it. I've copied the existing lede to here, if you want work on it with other editors before swapping it into Today's Feature Article. —hike395 (talk) 22:41, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Could you be specific? --mav (reviews needed) 04:53, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some quality concerns[edit]

I've been looking at this article for a while and I suspect it's going to be brought to WP:FAR in the near future, owing to several quality concerns:

  • There are a number of unsourced sentences.
  • Some very short paragraphs exist as well.
  • It looks like there are no post-2002 sources used in the article.

Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:01, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mav, the main author of this article, has not been active for years. Let's try to edit the article to address your concerns before bringing it to FAR.
Does every sentence need to have a source? Would you be willing to mark sentences with {{cn}}? — hike395 (talk) 16:26, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, but generally, there should be no sentence without a reference somewhere after its end. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:30, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I will attempt to add more citations. Note, however, that there are several post-2002 sources used in the article. The citations are a mixture between Harvard style and inline style, so it's misleading. I'll attempt a cleanup. — hike395 (talk) 05:01, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
