Montgomery Burns[edit]

The section on his relationship to the character Burns plagiarizes multiple lines from the NY Times article listed as a source. For example, from the Wikipedia article, "The joke, of course, is that Sandel is the anti-Burns: a moral philosopher who has devoted his life to pondering what is the right thing to do." From the NY Times article, "The joke, of course, is that Mr. Sandel ... is the anti-Burns, a moral philosopher who has devoted his life to pondering what is the right thing to do." Another line in the Wikipedia article says, "he shares a receding hairline with the evil-minded cartoon character." I’m a Harvard undergrad who was taken Prof. Sandel’s wildly popular and populated “Justice” class. A site with interactive lecture blogs that I found of great use for the duration of the class and in studying for the final was the following: http://www.thefinalclub.org/blogs/fall2007/Justice/. I also think the lecture notes are pretty interesting for anyone interested in Sandel’s area of work.

Anyone can read and contribute to the commentary of the texts on the site. If you read through a lecture or two and agree, I'd encourage someone with more Wikipedia clout than myself to post on the actual Sandel page. Let me know what you all think. Removed category: Jewish Philosophers[edit]

I don't know how to revert that (and I'm not really bothered enough to figure it out) but he's definitely Jewish. Since anonymous IP editors are treated like pond scum when it comes to altering Wiki biographies of living persons, here's an attempt to discuss the following before entering it into the record:

"According to a well-worn urban legend, Sandel was the inspiration for the character of Montgomery Burns in The Simpsons....There is a certain physical resemblance. (Several Simpsons writers took the Justice course as undergraduates, and presumably basing such an amoral villain on someone so concerned with morals was part of the joke.)

Becker[edit]

Changed the reference to Gary Becker's ersatz Nobel Prize to its correct name. When it is presented in fast telegraphed form, "Nobel winner" grants that person a high stature and an unassailability, which means that the section is about Sandel criticizing someone with high and unassailable stature. When the name of the prize is changed to be accurate, and its history is acknowledged, the connotations become accurate.
