Ballot Access[edit]

Have started to compile "Ballot Access" information which is a paragraph that summarises how difficult it is to become a candidate.

"Ballot access" is an American usage which does not belong in these articles. What you are talking about is the legal requirements for nomination. Adam 15:05, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Preamble[edit]

The article states that the upper houses were created to balance the lower houses, but it is my understanding that (in South Australia at least) the Legislative Council came first and the House of Assembly much later. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, that is true, but the article qualified that statement with the phrase "when the colonies were granted responsible government." Before that time the Councils existed as either appointed ro part-elected advisory bodies to the Governors. The article should probably say "retained" rather than "created", but this isn't an article about colonial history so we shouldn't go into too much detail. Adam 21:34, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
