Criticisms[edit]

There's still a lot of problems with the criticisms sources. It's stated Jakes denies the Trinity but the source says "...teaching compromises the Trinity" (http://www.equip.org/articles/loving-the-trinity). That's a bit different and the source really isn't even centered around Jakes.

Another is "Jakes believes in Word of Faith doctrine meaning anyone "can exercise the power of words to get whatever we want from God."" The problem with this is it looks like Jakes says, "anyone can exercise the power of words to get whatever we want from God." That's not really where the critical article is going, but we're in a theological argument.

Both of these are theological arguments that I question are even notable. Basileias (talk) 00:09, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 2012 discussion on his Trinitarian beliefs in the Elephant Room with Mark Driscoll got plenty of notable coverage, so I have put that in with 2 citations. – Fayenatic London 19:16, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pentecostal Oneism is an interesting claim that I've consistently heard regarding TD Jakes but I can find no evidence for it. If you can find a notable source claiming it, you can include it. If you find articles that also defend that position, or even TD Jakes rejecting it, it should also be included. Transparency is the best policy :) 110.33.120.196 (talk) 11:08, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bishop[edit]

Would it be useful to address that he's a self-styled bishop? There's no such thing as a non-denominational bishop, for an unaffiliated church. Who made him a bishop? ChocolateBlender (talk)ChocolateBlender —Preceding undated comment added 13:47, 9 May 2012 (UTC).[reply]

The same statement could be made about pastors of non-denominational. Who made them pastor? Themself?! Unfortunately therefore, your criticism cannot stand for what is publicly accepted in terms of what constitutes a church minister. Your criticism seems to be more of non-denominational churches, rather than that of his title. You couldn't say self-styled bishop - but probably bishop as styled by his congregation. Or as I understand, with "The Potter's House", his church family, it is a church network, so you'd have to say it was stylized by that church network, so your argument appears to be breaking down. 110.33.120.196 (talk) 11:11, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So pretty much self-styled by acclaim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:346:1180:4320:DD92:C810:3E1E:191C (talk) 22:57, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually, just being non-denominational doesn't make you on your own. There are associations of non-denominational churches. For example, the Association of Related Churches [1] has 400 non-denominational churches as members. Niteshift36 (talk) 18:42, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
[[User talk:ChocolateBlender|talk] is correct. Calling him a bishop without explanation misleads the reader, or at best confuses them. The standard definition of a bishop is an ecclesiastic leader of an church with an extended hierarchy (typically Roman Catholic, Orthodox or Anglican). "Bishop" should be mentioned, but it should be clear that it is self-styled and he is not part of a large organisation. Ashmoo (talk) 13:40, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree: bishop : "A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution." ---Avatar317(talk) 02:37, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Praise from Selena Gomez[edit]

In this Hillsong related article (http://www.christiantoday.com/article/selena.gomez.back.at.church.hearts.hillsong/41976.htm), Selena Gomez remarks "This morning at @bishopjakes The Potters house. Unbelievable message. Had me in tears. Thank you Bishop for reminding me why I should always keep going." 110.33.120.196 (talk) 11:03, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
