Template

I think I did good job on this and that it could serve as a template for other Cyrillic letters. If there are any objections to this being used as a template, put them here. Nikola 09:52, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)

It's good, Nikola, but the see also section should be broken up into two or three lines, so that I don't need to scroll horizontally. And some letters need disambiguation (be points to a disambiguation page; this should be fixed before using this article as template). Keep up the good work -- Cordyph 09:59, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hi Nikola. Comments in articles are likely to be deleted. If you want to create the articles for other Cyrillic letters yourself, I suggest to store the template on your user page. If you want others to participate, you might think about setting up a WikiProject. -- Cordyph 19:55, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Perhaps not. I'm not so good at working with people :) If people start writing about other letters, I'll easily correct the mistakes, comments or not. If not, I'll write about them myself. Thanks for all your help :)

If one row is added then there are three empty spots bottom left, which is ugly. If two, even more. The way it is now it fits on my screen, maybe it'll be ugly for someone but I wouldn't touch it anymore. Nikola 18:12, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Page Move

I accidentally moved Ya to whatever russian charecter it was to conform to A, B, C, etc., and messed up the "move page" button. Vancouverguy

Click on the "move page" button on Ya, it brings up:

I don't think it's technically feasible to move it to Я that might throw off the software (like with Kanji etc.). Article titles are a lot more finicky than article text. - Hephaestos 21:34, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Use in English

Ya and I (И if that comes out) are used in English in place of R and N to indicate Russianness (if that's a word). Perhaps a section on this page can discuss this. —msh210 23:15, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Should "Backwards r" be pointed to a disambiguation page instead?

Even though speakers of English and other European languages written in the Latin alphabet often use the phrase "backwards r" to refer to the Cyrillic letter Я, the phrase "backwards r" can also refer to ʁ, which is the symbol for a voiced uvular fricative in the International Phonetic Alphabet. The Я is pronounced as /ja/ (the English ya sound), whereas /ʁ/ has a "guttural r" sound.
