Consider...[edit]

I removed the following:

Consider a form of music which is presented through loudspeakers to an audience from an analog or digital tape-recording. This music may contain sounds that have recognisably musical sources, but may equally present recognisable sources that are beyond the bounds of traditional vocal and instrumental technology. We are as likely to hear the sounds of a bird, or of a factory as we are the sounds of a violin. Consider also that the technology involved transcends the mere reproduction of sounds. Techniques of synthesis and sound processing are employed which may present us with sounds that are unfamiliar and that may defy clear source attribution. Consider that this form of music may present us with familiar musical events: chords, melodies and rhythms which are easily reconcilable with other forms of music, but may equally present us with events which cannot be classified within such a traditional taxonomy. (Windsor 1995, p.10n1)

It may be a quote, it may simply be in an inappropriate tone. Hyacinth 11:41, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dating[edit]

The dating is misleading, here. The word was coined in 1966. With Pythagoras, the meaning in the unabridged Oxford English Dictionary concerns, not the physical configuration of the class environment, but the tendency of his students to listen to the specifics of what he said without understanding the overall meaning.

The idea that he lectured behind a screen is not attached to the meaning (by the OED), and needs a citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.127.166 (talk) 16:17, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
