Thanks! Plenty of people don't edit daily, & it is noticeable that we've had no comments from some of the individuals who would be most affected by the caps etc, and others who had contributed to the earlier discussions. Requests for comment on far more trivial matters are normally open for two weeks and often longer. Hey there. I don't know if you're still active, but if you get a minute, could you take a look at this article? An anon IP has been repeatedly adding a column that has the company that hosts the event. It started by them making this edit elsewhere to mention "Mid-America Festivals Inc.", but then it expanded to the List article as well. Wikipedia Ambassador Program at MSU[edit]

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian associated with Michigan State University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at MSU, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

DYK hook[edit]

I saw you are active at adding hooks to DYK, so I am hoping you can answer a question for me. I verified a hook at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on December 28 for List of managers of defunct Major League Baseball teams. However, I am unsure about the "New" criteria; only the prose lead has been expanded fivefold, not the list. Could you please look at the article history and confirm that it meets the "new" criteria.   • The requirement is that the article be newly created (which this is not, it was created on 11/28/2009) or have gone through a fivefold expansion of the readable prose. DYKcheck shows (and a visual check confirms) that as of five days ago the article had no readable prose (diff). Just to be sure that this wasn't a case of gaming, I also checked several prior article versions back to late-February 2010, and none of them had any readable prose either. Given that, any amount of readable prose could be said to be an infinite expansion on the prior readable prose, so that requirement is met. Keep in mind that DYK also requires at least 1500 characters of readable prose, so even though less than that would have met the expansion requirement, it still wouldn't be long enough to qualify. However, that is not a concern in this case, since I see 2492 characters of readable prose. cmadler (talk) 12:29, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bhutan[edit]

Bhutan is known by many names but drukyal is the most common. Dru-gäkhap(Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon) is the same meaning as drukyal(Land of the Thunder Dragon) just it changes Land with Kingdom. Hmmm, what's the source for the translation of O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit as "O lovely day, o hoped-for time"? I'd probably give it as "Oh lovely day, wished-for time", Google translate gives "O lovely day, desired time" and this source gives "O gracious day, desired time". [2], - precisely because it's a matter of taste, translations are not wanted for the bulk of the text of the Bach cantatas, but I liked the tradition of giving at least a hint of the meaning of the first line, no more. And I see another source that uses "Oh glorious day, longed-for time" ([3]). "Glorious" and "longed-for" might be too strong for holder and erwünscht, but that seems to me a better English translation. EMU off campus housing[edit]

Hi cmadler, I wanted to see what your opinion on off campus housing listed on the Eastern Michigan University student life page under housing. The reason why I ask is because i've never seen on a university page housing listed like pen place (or equivalent). I've seen affiliated housing listed but pen place for emu is not affiliated. Have you seen this on any other pages? I've been searching on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities article Pwojdacz (talk) 07:09, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I haven't really looked. I saw that a user had added it to the main EMU article. I moved it to the student life article and tried to improve it for neutrality and sourcing. I think that given the degree of on-campus v off-campus, it's appropriate to talk about it as long as it's neutral and appropriately sourced. That's partly why I added the universities numbers on on-campus and nearby off-campus students, and why I pulled Peninsular Place, Beal, and Barnes & Barnes into a single paragraph (to try to avoid undue weight on any one of them). cmadler (talk) 13:45, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with you that EMU has a large number of students who live off campus but most universities (emu size and larger) dont house the vast majority of its students. I agree on keeping it neutral as possible.

The Chesapeake Bay[edit]

Re: this edit: Oh, I have no doubt that the locals use the definite article. My question is, does their usage mean that the article must necessarily use it? Some of them have apparently, when the subject has come up in the past, insisted yes, Wikipedia must follow local convention. That is what I question. I want a diverse group to decide how the article should read, and if general usage in the English-speaking world is to say "Chesapeake Bay is a body of water", instead of "The Chesapeake Bay is a body of water", then the article should read accordingly. Ok, I've gone ahead and uploaded the new uniform. Unfortunately, time constraints will prevent me from uploading the old uniform image right now, but it will get done eventually.   • The new uni image looks good. The only things I'd argue with are that: the "E" on the helmet should be thicker, with the serifs almost closing off the inside of the letter (close-up helmet photo); the contrasting shoulder features should be narrower, closer to the neck, slightly curved, and come farther down (the points are even with the point at the bottom of the collar, and are just barely above the team name; image).   • Yeah, unfortunately I had to make do with that logo, since I couldn't find a good block E online and just had to use the text feature in Paint. As for the shoulders, would you say they're like USC's?     • Actually, after going back and looking at some photos I took, the shoulder features in your image are reasonably accurate to what the team actually wore, the school must have tinkered with the design a bit. A more clear explanation of my reversion since I was limited by space: the date is not included in the current version of uniforms because that is where future uniforms will be uploaded. Leaving the date off means that it won't have to be updated every time a new uniform is added. However, dates are added to the old uniforms. Depot Town architectural descriptions[edit]

Hmm. For historic districts I generally don't write detailed descriptions of the individual buildings unless they're very few (i.e., Bank Street Historic District (Waterbury, Connecticut)) or there's only one or two resources on the property that really merit such (can't think of an example on short notice). Nice! I knew nothing about either of them beyond the multiple Newbery Honors. One note is that they both received their Newbery Honors years after the fact. EMU student life[edit]

    • cmadler I totally agree with you that the main emu article is to long. I feel that the student life article is trying to encompass to much information that is very different from each other. I am cool with splitting the information (which you are right about the size) as long as it's an article that matches other formats with universities with good setups compared to WikiProject Universities. I want to make this article notable enough to make it on this list one day, which i'm sure you would love to see too. Can we try and find a middle ground? Maybe follow a format on the page similar to Student life at Brigham Young University or Campus of Brigham Young University? Maybe create a separate page for housing, a page for buildings like List of Brigham Young University buildings and we can do more research on some pages that fracture off to follow a similar format?Pwojdacz (talk) 14:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Reworking it into more discrete topics like that is fine with me. I don't even particularly care what the articles are called. I just think there's a lot of information that has a place in Wikipedia but not in the main Eastern Michigan University article: things like the list of fraternities and sororities, more detailed information on housing, etc. Generally speaking that can all be grouped in the classification "student life" (cf. Commons only accepts free (libre) files, while Wikipedia accepts non-free files under a limited "fair-use" provision. If you own the copyright (generally meaning you took the photos and did any photomanipulation), you can release the cover either under a free license (like Creative Commons) or into the public domain and put it on Commons, but you will probably be asked for verification that it is actually your work. Or, if the copyright holder has released it under a free license or into the public domain it can go on Commons, but again, there will need to be a way to verify that it's been released. Otherwise, it can go on Wikipedia (but not Commons) as a fair-use image, but it must meet all the requirements at WP:FAIRUSE. A key element of this is "contextual significance". WP:NFCI states that "Cover art from various items, for identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)" is acceptable. What this means in plain English is that, in order to use the book cover under a fair-use provision, the article needs to include "critical commentary" about the book. Album categorization by artist[edit]

Thanks I appreciate your note, but albums are categorized by the artist to whom they are credited, not by each individual who actually played on it. Note that (e.g.) Led Zeppelin II is not categorized under Category:Robert Plant albums because it's not a Robert Plant (solo) album. It is appropriate to make Category:Led Zeppelin albums a sub-category of Category:Robert Plant albums, as he performed on all Led Zeppelin recordings. It would be virtually impossible and highly unweildy to categorize albums by all of the performers that are on the album and I believe that consensus is in favor of categorizing according to this scheme (see this discussion which mentions articles categorized by jazz performers.) I just returned[edit]

from offering an opinion at The Hiker (Fall River, Massachusetts) and clicked on your link just to see who you are and was pleasantly surprised to to see that we have an Ypsi connection. For a long time the lead photo at that article was mine and I still have several in that article as well as most (all?) of the cross pictures at the Ypsilanti Water Tower article. I recently discovered a bunch of pictures of the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival - a few of which I might post. My wife and I met while being tour guides in the historic home tour element of that event. excuse this outburst, but I am now 1,000 miles or so away and just got excited. With approximately 1,000 CFBHOF inductees, I don't think it's appropriate to rate them all automatically "high". I would put that under other major national awards (including positional awards, coaching awards, All-America teams, and national halls of fame) should start one level higher than given, meaning they would automatically be "mid", but can be bumped up to "high" on a case-by-case basis. I have to admit, when doing a little run of Sports and Games GA reviews, I've been ignoring this article because I am not sure what to do with it. My inclination is to fail the nomination, as it just doesn't feel very complete - i.e.: virtually the entire history section deals with 1978-79, and nothing really beyond. (Also, I would move "The game that never was" up to the history section.) I don't want to fail it because of how long it has been in the queue, however. I realize it is a relatively small festival, so there won't be a multitude of major historical events, but is there more that can be added? Also, a section on the festival's organization would help. Who organizes it now? Is it volunteer based? What impact does it have on the community? Adding some of these things would definitely help the article out. I was just looking at User talk:Tkfy7cf/archive 1 and saw your interaction with sad user. He is, in my opinion a jerk plain and simple. That's why I added him to my shit list. I think the bottom line is, he has a Masters in Poetry and a Ph.D. in English and therefore 1) is probably unemployed and has nothing better to do with his time, 2) thinks he's smarter than everyone who doesn't have a bunch of letters after thier name. and 3) is probably a single skinny nerd. Normal practice is that any editor -- including the article creator/editor -- can assign a quality assessment of Start, Stub, or List, and a Low-importance assessment. Any editor uninvolved in the article can assess importance, and quality to C or B. Assessment to A-class requires support from two uninvolved editors (see Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/A-Class criteria#Basic method), while Good Article, Featured List, and Featured Article assessments have special processes. cmadler (talk) 23:11, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
