I changed the description of keynsham.co.uk from "the town's official website" to "a website with information about the town" as I am pretty certain it is not the "official" website (if there is such a thing). Bachelor or Batchelor[edit]

What else is needed to get this article to GA?[edit]

I've been editing this article to try to bring it closer to the guidelines at WP:UKCITIES and would be interested in what other editors think is need to get it to meet the Wikipedia:Good article criteria? Obviously we need to revise the lead to summarise the article & reference (or remove) the uncited claims, but is there anything else which would be required?— Rod talk 08:16, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is home to memorial park, - "a memorial park? or "It is home to Memorial Park,"
Capitalised as proper name
Be nice to expand the first para of History a little - you mention scattered Roman remains and then all you serve up is a couple of lousy coffins :)
Added a bit re mosaic etc
Again, any political colour that can be added to the governance section all the better. reads a little generic as is.

I don't get much of a feel for Memorial Park - is it mainly woodland or mainly open-space fields? Any other features to it?

Culture section could be buffed some more. How long's the festival been going?

Noteworthy residents section should be converted into prose - surely there is some Bill Bailey material which can make a good intro?
Done - there are a couple of Bailey comments about Keynsham on Couchtripper but nothing I thought was right to use.

Economy - edit request for subsection on regeneration[edit]

Design work for regeneration of the town hall area was awarded by Bath and North East Somerset Council to Aedas in 2010,[1] with the works cost stated in 2011 to be £33 million[2] (£34 million in 2012).[3] Realisation of the plans is hoped to "attract new business and jobs".[1]

The plans directly affected up to a dozen local shopkeepers, who were required to relocate during construction. The proprietor of Temple Street's chip shop (a former architect) devised an alternative scheme, which was reported as having the support of the other shopkeepers.[4] One hardware shop "of a kind that is hard to find", Handyman's,[5] closed after "almost 60 years" in the town.[6]

In January 2012, it was announced that the Willmott Dixon had been appointed as contractor on the scheme.[7][8] The Council's planning committee in August 2012 deferred the approval decision, pending alterations to the external appearance of the building.[9][10] These were approved in October 2012,[11][12] with demolition commencing in the same month[13] and proceeding significantly from November.[14][15]

Thanks for this. I would agree that the article should include something on the "regeneration plans". I have a couple of issues with the proposed text and suggest we work on it here until consensus can be agreed and then put it into the article. My comments would be:
  • Several of the sources are : BD online - the full stories are only available to registered users. I know this doesn't stop them being used but means I can't verify the content supports the claims made.
  • The citations include several "bot generated titles" which need checking - I prefer the use of Template:Cite web
  • Refs 4,5,12 & 15 "This is Bristol" don't load for me - this may be temporary
  • I'm not sure Keynshampeople (ref 6) would count as a reliable source - I wouldn't include the quote "of a kind that is hard to find", and the shop title Handyman's, but I guess that is personal preference.
  • I'm not sure what "proceeding significantly" in the last sentence means - perhaps another form of words.

Thanks for taking the time to review the request. In response to your comments:
  1. I also noticed that some of the sources appeared to be paywalled - the first time I read them, they were accessible, and were presented to me as part of a news search... when I then reopened them, it wasn't the same. However, I'd request that they be accepted here in good faith.
  2. I normally try to exercise a bit more diligence with refs, and generally use reference templates - apologies for not doing so in this case but I didn't have time... if anyone cares enough about the GA status (assuming it's still valid, which IMHO is questionable) then they're welcome to reformat them.
  3. I agree about the Keynshampeople ref, but its use isn't really claiming anything not also cited elsewhere - as for the name Handyman's, the shop is AFAIK notable (if not in Wikipedia terms) to those from the Whitchurch/Keynsham area, and I feel that its disappearance is relevant to the Keynsham article. Your comment on the "hard to find" quote is valid, but I think the description itself is equally valid - if you know the shop, you'll probably agree that it'd be hard to find an independent hardware shop of that size nowadays.
  4. "Proceeding significantly" was used in order to distinguish the preliminary work (i.e. removal of any valuable or dangerous materials) from the work undertaken by the "demolition experts" referred to in ref. 15 - the phrase could perhaps be replaced with experts moving in, or similar.
Regarding editors' preferences and seeking consensus, I'd say that the proposed edit (or a close incarnation of, bearing in mind the above) could be made by whoever's willing to do so. Any points disagreed with (even if by the same editor making that edit) could then be addressed with subsequent separate edit(s). Is that any good? OK This is Bristol refs now working so my tweaks would be the ref templates & loosing the Keynsham people citation - it is covered by the "This is Bristol" one. As below:

Issue with content[edit]
