always thought 'interface' was the interaction between two disparate elements (typically people, but often computer systems, etc).

ooooh its interfacing, it goes between the shell and lining fabrics.....

Interfacing is a material that has a fusible side that is applied to the fabric by an iron. It is often used when a design is sewn onto a jumper, ie, those old USA jumpers that had white paper-like stuff left on the inside that eventually all came off. You might know it as "tear - away". But its technical name is interfacing, and is known that way everywhere! (Even here in Australia)
