Movie Titles[edit]

The translations for the movie titles on this page are very poor. "The Storm Called:" is not an accurate translation of "嵐を呼ぶ". "嵐を呼ぶ" is a Japanese idiom which literally translates to "invoke a storm" or "summon a storm," and has the meaning of "cause a commotion." For example, the Japanese movie "嵐を呼ぶ男" is translated as "Man Who Causes A Storm." Also, I'm not sure if "leotard" is a good translation for "ハイグレ." In the early 90's, the "high-leg" one-piece bathing suits women wore were called "ハイレグ" in Japan. "ハイグレ" comes from Shin just switching two syllables as he often does when he butchers words. (For example, saying "おつや" for "snack" instead of "おやつ".) However, I can't think of a better alternative word for "ハイグレ" to use when translating the movie title to English, except to just leave it as "Haigure," and I'm not sure if that is a better option. Sega Pico game?[edit]

According to these websites: http://segaretro.org/Japan_Region_Pico_games http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/search.asp?keywords=shin+chan&platforms=53&regions=&x=3&y=3 Crayon Shin-Chan games exist for the Sega Pico video game system. However, as both websites are wikis, I was wondering if anyone had any reliable sources for this? Vitello's dub[edit]

I just wanted to inform you, that Vitello's dub is from 2002, not 1994. That's make a lot of sense, because this dub was aired in around that time as well. I see no reason for an English dub to be made as early as in 1994, only to be aired in 2002 and beyond.

Is Shin Chan Really a Seinen Series[edit]

Yes you can see that Futabasha's publications are all for older audiences. Also have you never seen the vulgarity this series???

"Anime" section[edit]

Greetings! I did a small bit of editing and organizing in the "Anime" section, and I came here to discuss some of my thoughts about it.

First of all, in practically every single other article I've seen in the Manga and Anime WikiProject, this "Anime" section gives some details about the Japanese side, such as some of the people or companies behind it, the TV shows it airs on, and sometimes some significant events that occurred. Now, most of this is delegated to the "List of episodes" article, but there's at least a paragraph that talks about it, followed by another paragraph about Western releases (if any). Having an "Anime" section that doesn't even have a single word about the Japanese side is weird, to say the least, and is something that should be corrected.

Additionally, I added the {{overly-detailed}} tag to the part about the Funimation dub. (I also changed all instances of "FUNimation" to "Funimation".) While the examples are interesting, and help to drive home the point of Funimation changing the contents of the dub to better fit an American audience, there is a question of "how much is too much?" How many examples and how much of the article should be used to discuss this aspect? In my opinion, what is there right now is on the "more than is really needed" side. I would suggest either removing some examples (maybe even all of the examples?) and condensing down that whole part.

I know next to nothing about this show, and I'm not about to go out of my way to pick up an anime or manga that's been running for this long, so unfortunately, I won't be of any help to correct these problems. Like I stated in my edit summary, the section could really benefit from a table. Also, why are all the mobile app games being separated from the video games section, under a new section called "smart phone games"? They're still video games. Origin of Crayon Shinchan[edit]

After a lot of research, I finally found the story behind Crayon Shin-chan's beginning. This is based on the Wikipedia article on Darakuya Store Monogatari (Japanese) and interviews which aired on NHK World's programme imagine-nation. The content which I wanted to add is as follows: The original author Yoshito Usui, before beginning his career as a mangaka, worked at a shop called Darakuya store. The founder and owner of the store was Shinnosuke Nikaidō. In 1987, Usui started his mangaka career by creating a manga called “Darakuya Store Monogatari” inspired by his experiences, which got published in the magazine Weekly Manga Action. Shinnosuke Nikaidō was one of its characters and the manga depicted his growing up from a boy to becoming the store owner. The then editor in charge, Katsuyuki Hayashi, suggested Usui that if they make this character as the protagonist of another manga, it would be interesting. In 1990, the manga Crayon Shin-chan appeared in the Weekly Manga Action as a spin-off to Darakuya Store Monogatari. The August 7, 2007 edition of Weekly Manga Action contained a segment called Kureyon Shinchan Tanjō Hiwa (Crayon Shin-chan birth secret story) where it was specified that the model person of Shinnosuke Nohara was Shinnosuke Nikaidō.[1]Hayashi himself confirmed the birth story behind Crayon Shin-chan in an interview which aired on NHK World in a programme called imagine-nation on August 31, 2010.[2][3]
But the edits have been reverted stating "unreliable references". Aren't we deliberately denying the facts?

Taiwan[edit]

The article currently says, "A Chinese subtitled version of Crayon Shin-chan in Japanese premiered in Taiwan on ETTV on April 13, 1992." That's cited to [1] - but that appears to be a current schedule for the show, and makes no reference to when the series premiered in Taiwan. In fact, April 13, 1992 is identified as the date the show debuted in Japan, and it would surprise me if the show debuted the exact same day with a translated version in another country, given that the article discusses how much of the show's humor is difficult to translate. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:54, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First airdate of ETTV in Taiwan was August 1995. Then how can Shinchan be released on ETTV on 1992? Moreover, verification of the citation/reference has been failed. Maintenance tags are not inherently a bad thing, just placed to highlight issues in the article. In this article's case, there are still several unsourced sections, so removing it would be counterproductive to the point of using them.
