The Society of Jesus acknowledges the use of the modern Latin letter "J" in the spelling of its motto more frequently than the use of the ancient Latin letter "I" and therefore shall be the default spelling on Wikipedia with a redirect from the motto spelled in ancient Latin to the motto rendered in the modern Latin alphabet. Prominent reference to the ancient spelling is added into the lead of the article to pacify those who prefer the ancient Latin conventions. --Gerald Farinas 21:22, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
