Understanding of the Wikipedia Project

All contributors to this project, I hope, are people excited and inspired by the immense potential that the medium allows. The ones who remain are generally impressed by the collaborative process and excited by the prospect of open-ended co-operation: they are motivated to work, precisely because they are free to work. Wikipedia is more than a thought-experiment or exhibition of intellectual curiousity, however. If it's doing its job, it is a useful, simple and quite startlingly powerful resource.
