Tweedle Dum (ND) seem to have beaten Tweedle Dee (PASOK) by 5%, according to the BBC. Meanwhile Jorg Haider has been re-elected Governer of Carinthia... and the SPO have won big in Salzburg.

The correct English name for "Alliance" is something else, starting with SYN. See Politics of Greece. It would be cool if someone could join both articles in one way or the other, or at least crosslink them. -- till we *) 15:34, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The Greek name is Synapsismos tis Aristeras ke ti Proodu, which translates as Alliance of the Left and Progress. "Alliance" seemed a reasonable abbreviation. It would be possible to make all the party names links, but I think there are only articles on PASOK, ND and the KKE. Adam 01:02, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

There should be some article somewhere, I think, about fragmenting of votes allowing another side to win. It's a phenomenon that keeps coming up in many elections, and should probably be noted. Examples include the fragmenting of the conservative vote in Canada (at least until the recent merger of two Conservative parties), the fragmenting of the left-wing vote in France that allowed Jean-Marie Le-Pen to advance to the second-round elections ahead of Lionel Jospin, and the fragmenting of votes due to third parties in the US presidential elections (Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996 and Ralph Nader in 2000). There's lots of issues to be discussed (relative effect in different electoral systems, etc.). But I can't think of a good title for such an article. --Delirium 01:25, Mar 9, 2004 (UTC)

About Liberals:

In 2004 participated in the elections a party named "Liberals Party" that has nothing to do with the Liberals in 2000. The leader of the Liberals, Stefanos Manos participated in 2004 with PASOK (it's a greek paradox but it's true).

About SYN:

Syriza and Synaspismos are different entities.

Syriza consits of Synaspismos, AKOA, Active Citizens, DEA, Red, KEDA and indipenent left people See here: http://www.syriza.gr The main power is Synaspismos. The other parties have never participated in the elections independently.
