I think it has been popular earlier than that board.

Since the article is not the best place for this note, I will place it here. Guro is deliciously fucked up. Normal people will vomit after seeing guro, that is how you know what it is.

I think that mention of tentacles is un-needed, because 1.) This is no longer the case. 2.) Guro is more gore, severed limbs, and buzz-saw through the genitial region.

May be worth mentioning Guro is also an Indonesian word for Teacher. Used often in the Martial Arts world.

Sample Image... (And a point on Guro itself)

If you look closely, you'll see that the limbs have parts similar to a doll. This mostly looks like an image of a full-size human doll, like a mannequin of some sort.

However, I have seen guro art that doesn't involve human characters before, such as androids or humanoid robots (who look completely human apart from their innards) being torn apart and so on... So if these android-torture images are acceptable on the various guro image boards, then I would imagine that the mannequin thing also qualifies. Even so, I just thought I should note it.

I would imagine the best way to know would be to find the artist and see if they intended it as a guro artwork, or if it's some kind of odd abstract art piece. It would be handy to know if the artist has created other guro-like material.

By the way, this is my first 'Discussion' post ever (I sure picked a weird subject eh?) so if I did something incorrectly, I apologize. :)

Also, I noticed someone mentioned that "guro is fucked up" above, I know I should probably reply up there instead of saying this here... but in any case... Guro is definitely very extreme, however I've noticed that most people who tend to hang out on those image boards are not evil hateful people as some might expect. The vast majority seem to have an incredible respect for life, and most seem like the last people in the world that would wish for someone's life to be taken. Most are sadenned by real-life tales of people being murdered, which really makes you think about how the human mind works. Since it's possible for a human to be perfectly good-natured and kind, and have empathy for others, but still view such horrible imagery with incredible interest. Anyways, maybe this information, if a bit more researched and polished, could become a part of the main article. Not sure where else to post this... An analysis of the psychology behind the guro phenomenon of 'stub girls' would be of great value to those trying to understand it.

My vote's on without the hyphen - expanded, the phrase would be "erotic grotesque", not "erotic-grotesque". Tzaquiel 23:15, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
