Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on October 5, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that the term "Moonie" was first used by American media sources to refer to members of Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church in 1974, during church events at the Madison Square Garden?

Merge?[edit]

This article is not really about the word, which would be against WP:Not a dictionary anyway. (Although there are some exceptions to that.) It is really about the controversy in the US about the use of the word in the 70s and 80s. Unification Church of the United States already has a section on that. How about merge there? Hmmm...might be a good idea. Actually the word "Moonie" is used more often for other things now days, like Sailor Moon fans.Kitfoxxe (talk) 15:11, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This article should not be merged as it is a record of attitudes pertaining at a particular time. It's contents are not adequately reflected in the target page. A rename would be more appropriate.Cathar66 (talk) 14:00, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't merge While perhaps a little too much detail is given, this article can stand on its own. Clearly the topic is notable.Borock (talk) 14:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge as suggested. People probably want to know about the people, the "Moonies", as well as about the word. Why not have information on both in the same place? PopSci (talk) 15:26, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
