Untitled[edit]

I'm wondering if the near-escape with the roller coaster was planned. It was featured on television afterall. -- Mblaze

It was planned as it was filmed for one of his TV shows. However, it didn't quite go to plan during taping, and Burton escaped literally at the last moment. He is quoted to have said, "That was stupid!". I believe he shows that clip at the start of his stage show now. -TonyW 01:52, Jun 6, 2004 (UTC

Sorry, but the roller coaster escape was a computer trick. His shadow disappears a few frames before the coaster reaches him. The jump from the platform was done with the coaster nowhere near him, and composited with the video of the coaster. A total TV trick, that could have not been done with a live audience. Regarding to Wikipedia it doesn't matter how the trick was done, but even if it wasn't a computer trick (and it really wasn't), of course it was planned to escape at the last second. It doesn't make for good TV, if he escapes way before. as for adding drama, by saying that it didn't go according to plan, and "that was stupid" and such, that's showbusiness, what do you think? They always have an opt-out, so they don't die, even if the trick fails.Hg2014 (talk) 01:35, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article says he was at the Monte Carlo since 1994, however this resort did not even open until 1996. Yes, I know this because I worked there and I sold tickets to his shows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.100.108.1 (talk) 22:25, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical Info?[edit]

Is there any biographical informartion available on Lance Burton besides his birthdate and magic career? School? Love life?

On a side note, I deleted several comments exposing his tricks. I don't know the Wikipedia policy on magic tricks, but if they are fair game, they need to be in articles proper--there are fair-use and intellectual property issues that need to be monitored. Reyemile 00:16, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited biographical claims[edit]

This article, aside from its resume-like tone, contains violations of Wikipedia policy regarding Biographies of Living Persons. I've commented out what seem the major uncited personal-life claims, rather than removing them, presuming they can be cited by reliable journalistic sources. --Tenebrae (talk) 11:14, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Remove from Wikipedia[edit]

This article is hardly a stub. Reyemile above hits the nail on the head. This article reveals NOTHING about Lance Burton. How did his appearances on The Tonight Show (Johnny Carson) shape his career? I've always thought these appearances launched his amazing career. He was unique back then, he could pull lighted candles out of the air. What a trick. No! I don't want to know how he did it. Thanks Tenebrae. If you are a real magic fan you want to be dazzled. I shall remain forever in the dark about how Lance Burton did his tricks. Some subjects needed: Childhood in Columbia, how he became a professional, what happened to get him to Vegas, etc. etc....A BIOGRAPHY. That's what we need. Here's a tidbit that I learned when saw his act in Vegas in 2008: With respect to pulling lighted objects out of thin air, he used to produce lighted cigarettes with a flick of his fingers then he would take a puff to show us it was real. One time an audience member complained (paraphrased) 'He's smoking on stage, he's a very bad role model for my children'. Well, Lance cut out the cigaret portion of his act. Thiese kind of anecdotes are needed. I think this article should be pulled. Dangnad (talk) 03:51, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Active again?[edit]

According to his website and Facebook page, Lance is apparently either still performing and/or active again after a hiatus of some length. He has a show coming up in Washington state and just did one in Daytona, Florida. So I think the section indicating he is no longer active needs revision. --Shawn K. That's not Lance Burton[edit]

I'm not sure who needs to know this or if it matters in this particular situation, but the photo currently being used for this article is not a picture of Lance Burton. It's a picture of his wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas. I didn't see any mention of this fact in the image information on Wikipedia or Wikimedia.
