Profit

This article states that ‘Blast from the Past’ “ultimately made a profit, grossing 40.3 million dollars against its 35 million dollar budget.” Obviously, this makes no sense. In order for a movie to break even it must gross at least twice what it cost to produce, especially since movie theaters take a percentage (and likely Fraser has a percentage as the star of the film.). And a big studio movie usually spends millions on advertising. So, say five million was spent on advertising (which I am sure is lower than the reality) that would put the budget up to $40 million. ‘Past’ would have needed to make $80 million at the box office to turn a profit. (of course the advertising could have been 10 or 15 million, who knows.)

Anyway, the film did not make a profit - or come anywhere close. Even if the 35 million number included the production cost and marketing costs, it would have needed 70 mill. This movie lost money. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.234.53 (talk) 07:44, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

I was planning on rewriting this. BTW: You can't copyright statistics.

...but you can copyright a particular selection of them, or a particular way of expressing them, and the review at the bottom was certainly copyrighted. Anyway, it's all been deleted. Is this quote really necessary?

The name of Adam and his girlfriend Eve are a play on Adam and Eve.

I think the length of the plot is just fine, similar to plots of other films. The problem is there's no other info in the article such such production, trivia or box office details. WP policy dictates that plot summaries be no more than 600-700 words. This one is over 1000. It is too long or excessively detailed (both, actually) regardless of the length of the article. I've replaced the template. 98.231.237.15 (talk) 00:39, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Categories: Films set in the 1970s/1980s

Seems to me the film was set in the 1960s and 1990s only. Please note the 35-year gap between entering the shelter and coming out (1962-1997). What do you think? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 08:38, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

It showed sections adam's life and the malt shop/bar upstairs from various points through the 60's, 70's and then skipped to '91, and then the rest of the movie was in 1997. 68.148.100.97 (talk) 04:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Character Name

Though solely listed in the credits as "Soda Jerk", Joey Slotnick's character (the Soda Jerk in question) explicitly introduces himself to Adam's parents as "Archbishop Melker" late in the film. Thus, I've added the character's self-applied title and name to the cast list.

just my 2cents worth, but... Joey Slotnick and Dave Foley should have gotten Best Supporting Actor noms... or did they? The other thing i find VERY funny bout this movie; Spacek and Walken.. think about it, actually LIVED during/thru the Cuban Missile Crisis, the early, late 60's etc.. i couldn't help giggle thinking how they BOTH were possibly? perhaps? playing/drawing on their respective parents. 76.218.248.127 (talk) 01:26, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Measuring the New House

I disagree with this interpretation of the movie here: "Unconvinced, Calvin plans to build a new fallout shelter as Eve watches while playing with her engagement ring." Calvin already knows the measurements of the original house. He doesn't need to "remeasure" against a replica. I always assumed he was measuring to see how close they got this replica house to the original. Thoughts? Aemely (talk) 00:55, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
