Untitled[edit]

The "List of doping cases in cycling" contained a thin accusation -- that because Major Taylor spoke of experiencing hallucinations, he was probably taking nitroglycerine. That accusation has been removed, so the link to the section is no longer appropriate.

Marshall Taylor of the USA was the American champion. He refused to continue a New York race, saying: "I cannot go on with safety, for there is a man chasing me around the ring with a knife in his hand."^[1] Nitroglycerine was used to stimulate the heart after cardiac attacks and was credited with improving riders' breathing, but they suffered hallucinations from the exhaustion and the drugs.^[2])

More appropriate might be a discussion of possible doping that pre-dated doping testing. Amanda bee (talk) 12:12, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marshall Taylor → Major Taylor – As the velodrome, boulevard, society and association commemorating him all use the name "Major Taylor", this appears to be his WP:COMMONNAME by which the article should be titled. World record regressed?[edit]

The list of world records shows 1:19 for 1 mile in 1899, followed by 1:33 2/5 for the same distance in 1908. Both are notated as motor-paced. How could the later mark have been a world record? 2601:642:C201:210:34D2:3969:AD0F:8101 (talk) 22:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
