Merger the pages Air India and Indian Airlines together[edit]

I think we should merger the two pages together becuase the real merger between Air India and Indian Airlines completing on July 15 2007. We will have to merger the pages anyways since there will be nomore of Indian Airlines after July 17 2007. Please do consider this since it will happen sooner then later.Sunny Gill265 22:39, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I think we should wait until the merger actually happens, and the airlines websites reflect that. When the airlines have merged their websites into one, then that is when we should do the same here, IMHO. However, this doesn't mean that somebody can't start a merged page now in their sandbox, and then launch it at the right time. Any takers? Cheers--RobNS 18:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When the merger occurs I would suggest closing the Indian article and recategorising it to Defunct airlines, so that the article itself is not lost. Parts of the Indian article should be merged with Air India to give appropriate background and a complete article, but the Indian article should not be lost itself. Ardfern 11:09, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. That would be the sensible way to go. Since we have a defunct airlines category, which features a number of airlines that are much less in significance than this huge airlines with a half a century of history behind it, it is only natural that we shift the article to that category. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:59, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well it seems like the merger has occurred, or at least something has happened on the Air India Website. airindia.in redirects to a new page with NACIL, the merged brands of Indian and Air India. Each airline has its own link at the bottom of the page. I think we should start merging these pages together.Sansri88 04:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indian Airlines is an airline with a long history and is notable in its own right, so there should always be a page here for the airline. The article simply needs to be changed to reflect that it is defunct (when that officially occurs). --Russavia 10:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
The Indian Airlines article should be merged into the Air India article with Indian Airlines serving as a redirect to Air India. At the beginning of the Air India article there should be a link to the defunt Indian Airlines article. Similar to what is done on the AT&T article. Gsingh 11:15, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The merger with Air India has taken place. Though two separate articles can be used, the article title name should be changed to Air India. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.162.124.71 (talk) 12:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No need to change article name on wikipedia it will always remain as Indian same as for other merged carrier which still have articles with their own now non-existant titles, here's another reference for merger showing new flight numbers effective 12 February http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5059167/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.71.17.157 (talk) 13:05, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unchanged things[edit]

The website is still in name of Indian Airlines. The corporate logo shows Indian Airlines Ltd in small print. I wonder, if IPO was actually made. I bumped into this news article http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2006/04/12/stories/2006041203560300.htm dated April 11, 2006. Npindia 14:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Name[edit]

Seems like they have dropped "Airlines" from their name.

http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/dec/07ia.htm

This article needs to be rewritten now with new photos, I guess.

[edit]

The article mentions that the new logo is insipired by Sun Temple, Konark, but I feel it closely resembles wheels of the Ashoka Chakra. Any reference for the Sun temple link? --Victor 18:49, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with the above comments. A Konark temple chakra has 8 aryas, whereaes the Ashoka chakra has 24 which is also shown as the Indian Logo. The Ashoka Chakra adorns on the national emblem. This should be corrected in the content for the Indian airlines information. 202.87.45.241 10:55, 23 May 2007 (UTC) Amit Gaikwad, 4:23 pm 23 May 2007.[reply]

Hindi spelling[edit]

I don't have access to a Hindi character set to fix it but the first line has a spelling error in Hindi. The correct version can be seen in the logo image at the top right of the page. The wrong spelling reads "In-d-yi-n" whereas it should be "In-di-a-n". (Actually, the logo says "In-di-y-n" which is wrong - there is no Y sound in Indian" - but what can you expect?)

First female pilot[edit]

According to this source [1] the predecessor company Deccan Airways hired the first female pilot worldwide. Can anyone validate this? At least, that Mrs. Prem Mathur worked with the company as pilot? 84.173.221.189 10:35, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First female pilot[edit]

Confirmation - Mrs. Prem Mathur was the first woman commercial pilot to fly for a scheduled airline. Know this first hand from my father (use to be with IA) and knew Mrs Mathur. The second Indian Airlines woman pilot was Mrs Durba Bannerjee. The latter grew to be more famous and finally retired as an A300 captain.

Until and unless Air India and Indian Airlines become a single entity, i.e. same name, logo, same management and till it joins the star alliance, a merged article need not be prepared. It may take time to repaint the existing aircrafts, so a merged article which will show both the groups as a single entity, will be confusing and perhaps misleading.

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 18:12, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger section absent[edit]

A section on the AI-IA merger is conspicuously absent. Shouldn't a section be devoted to it? TheMikeWassup doc? 15:49, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We are apparently discussing the same on Milborne's talk page.Abhishek Talk to me 16:10, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Airline code change[edit]

AI/IC merger being completed This says that the codes for AI and IC will be same. This source seems to be reliable. I have updated the scenario on the article, but I think its better to change the article completely after establishing consensus. TheMikeWassup doc? 15:56, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The two airlines appear from government and NACIL reports to have merged and Indian Airlines doesnt really exist anymore. The only reason it looks like it it still seperate is the inabilility to change the airline code from IC to IA in the airlines computer and reservation systems but as you sau that is being done. The article really needs to be changed to a defunct airline and left as a historical subject. Anything related to current operations should be in the AI article. MilborneOne (talk) 15:57, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Merger of code to AI has been completed, its now doing test runs on the system and will be fully implemented 12 February, the IC code will not be used from then.116.71.6.146 (talk) 08:57, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A330[edit]

These aircraft were for Indian but delievered in air india livery same as for 319 and 321, so they should be listed in the fleet section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.155.41.172 (talk) 10:22, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indian (airline)Indian Airlines – For most of its existence, the airline was known as "Indian Airlines", and was only rebranded as "Indian" during its last few years of operation: the airline was rebranded "Indian" in 2005, and its merger with Air India was announced in 2007. WP:NAMECHANGES does not apply because this is a defunct airline which will not experience any more changes in the future, so we should give equal weight to the coverage over different years. Also, WP:NATURAL disambiguation is preferred over WP:PARENDIS. feminist 13:56, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - dont have a problem with a change to the name used for the longest period. MilborneOne (talk) 21:52, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move. Natural disambiguation is better.  ONR  (talk)  00:31, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
