Landlords[edit]

I note the article assumes landlords could not have been Irish. I suspect some at least considered themselves so. Laurel Bush 13:03, 16 May 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Name[edit]

What is the name of this organisation; admittantly the article does not make it clear and I would of though it was simply the "Land League". The Encyclopedia of Ireland indicates orginally called the "National Land League of Mayo" (1879) and soon called the "Irish National Land League" (1879) by 1882 it had pretty much been replaced by the "Irish National League". Any takers? Djegan 19:40, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Djegan,
As far as I'm aware, the first organisation was the Mayo Land League (1879 and modelled on the Ballinasloe Tenants' Defence Association of 1876). Within a few weeks, this became the Irish National Land League. In 1882, the Irish National League was formed to replace the Irish National Land League, which had been declared illegal. All these organisations had more or less the same leaders, all led the Land War, but were distinct organisations in their own right. Something I could busy myself with now that I'll have some more time on my hands!--Damac 23:03, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Historically, there were a number of different Irish land leagues at different times and different places, some small some large, some very local some more regional. This article is about a particular Irish land league not about the leagues in general. The name of the league described in this article is the Irish National Land League and the opening sentence should make this crystal clear. Currently, it does not. By using Irish Land League in the opening sentence, instead of Irish National Land League there is an implication, not dispelled till later in the article, that the article is or may be about Irish land leagues in general. In a news article shortenings of this sort are the norm but in an encyclopaedia there can be no excuse for such ambiguity in the opening sentence. I am amending Irish Land League in the opening sentence, therefore, to read Irish National Land League, the league's correct name. 101.163.21.119 (talk) 02:23, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Irish Republican Brotherhood[edit]

There is no mention of the IRB in the article, and the support they gave during it's founding. Clan na Gael do not get a mention either. I have placed a tag on the article, as there is no citations on the information. First chance I get I will start to reference it. --Domer48 (talk) 22:27, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Farming depression[edit]

I've added a line on the depression from 1874, as most tend to forget about it. Elsewhere in Europe farmers had mechanisms for varying rents based on prices and weather, but not generally in Ireland outside Ulster. What was remarkable about the INLL was its sudden explosion of protest and its organization, but the underlying reasons had been there for a few years.86.42.207.82 (talk) 16:52, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disbandment[edit]

Currently, the article claims that Parnell disbanded the Irish National Land League after he had founded the Irish National League. As far as I know, this claim is inaccurate and incorrect, and it is inconsistent with the information currently in the Irish National League Wikipedia article. Specifically, most other encyclopaedia entries on the Irish National Land League state that the league was suppressed or proscribed (note the use of the passive voice, so common in such claims, with no details of the agent, where, when or how) and it was a result of this suppression or proscription by the unspecified authorities at an unspecified time, place and manner, that Parnell afterwards set up the league's successor, the Irish National League. I am amending the article accordingly, so that it is at least consistent with the claims made in Irish National League 101.163.21.119 (talk) 02:42, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A STATEMENT FOR HONEST AND THOUGHTFUL MEN[edit]

"A STATEMENT FOR HONEST AND THOUGHFUL MEN" = "A STATEMENT FOR HONEST AND THOUGHTFUL MEN" 2603:8000:D300:D0F:C8D4:D7FE:1701:7AD8 (talk) 08:03, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
