Recording[edit]

There seems to be a few request here for a recording of the Last Post so I decided to tweak an existing one on the commons, upload it and add it to this article. Cj005257 (talk) 18:09, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like a midi thing and not a recording to me. 92.29.119.112 (talk) 11:22, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. :) It is a recording but in a rather limited and perhaps slightly misleading sense. I'll change the label. It could do with a more convincing performance, certainly. I have a better synth performance, but a proper recording of an actual instrument might take longer ... :) DBaK (talk) 07:45, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Last Post and Taptoe, again[edit]

Well, this is interesting. I reverted these edits because it seemed that what we already said about Last Post and Taptoe contradicted this. But this makes it clear that in at least one MH17 event it was indeed Last Post that was used. I don’t have a ref for two services, nor the WW2 commemoration claim, which still sounds unlikely to me, nor for the usage claim (military vs general). Note, indeed, that the article linked above makes it clear that the usage issue was internationalism, not military/civilian.

So where does this leave us? We have a ref for one bit, but I am not even sure that the article needs to cover this at all – we can’t write about every time it’s played. I’d be interested to read others’ views. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 13:51, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

History?[edit]

Is there any reason why there's no mention of how old The Last Post is, when and how it originated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianbrettcooper (talkcontribs) 15:04, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The following BBC article provides some information if you or others are interested. The story of the Last Post — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.18.134.184 (talk) 13:32, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Score[edit]

Why is the score in C major, when the article says it should be in B-flat and the recording is too? – filelakeshoe (t / c) 10:49, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. It's because the bugle is a transposing instrument and music for it is not notated at concert pitch. Very surprising if you haven't encountered it. BPMullins | Talk 02:01, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Last Post[edit]

There is inaccuracy in this description, the music is rhythmically wrong and the reference to Eb is also wrong as there are two versions of the last post one for British Army infantry (Bb version posted here) and one for British Army cavalry (Eb version mentioned) but they are different calls. I have 32 years experience in Army music as a trumpet player, and have played both, I feel this post needs correcting. The American Taps is of course different again. 2A02:C7E:34BD:EC00:F85E:E6B2:D471:2A1B (talk) 21:53, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
