I (Markus Persson) am one of the co-founders of the wurm online project, and I've given the ok to use this text. On a more informal note, I think WikiPedia is a truly kick-ass project, and see no problem with any of the text we put up on our webpage being copied here. (Information is supposed to be free!) I removed the strikethrough tags over Markus Persson's name as a designer for the game. He came up with the concept of a totally empty world and has had his fingers in most aspects of the game. MMOFS is Massive multiplayer online fantasy simulator, is a name that wurm use to describe the game, because the game is mmo is a fantasy game but is more realistic (and try to be more realistic) than others games. This "sub-genre"of mmo don`t exist, so mmofs should not link to mmo. WP:VG assessment[edit]

Overall I'd say this is Start-Class: primarily because of a complete lack of sources and also due to the content of the article. A couple of example articles you could use are World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI. Neither are perfect, but parts of each one would be useful to help you get a good idea of the structure and content of parts of this article. Here are some ideas to improve it further:

  • As I say, references. WP:CITE, WP:CITE#HOW, WP:CITET. Also, when using sources, remember to only use reliable sources. I imagine most of the information can be cited using the game's website, but do this as a last resort: secondary sources should be used wherever possible to assert notability.
  • On a similar note, to assert real-world notability you need a Reception section to give it some real-world context: how did reviewers react to it? I'm also rating this article Low-importance, so the Reception section could be much more straightforward than those in the aforementioned articles: have a look at the Reception sections at WP:VG#Example articles for some good examples.
  • Also, you should remove those reviews from the external links sections: really, they should be references for a Reception section so be featured in the Reception section - WP:CITE#HOW.
  • Lead needs expansion per WP:LS - summarise the entire article in two/three paragraphs.
  • All images need their resolutions reduced and to correspond with the licensing/templates already there, fair use rationales - WP:FURG.
  • Final Fantasy XI is a good example of how to write an MMO's Gameplay section without turning it into a game guide. Any information which isn't useful to a non-player of the game shouldn't be included in this article.
  • Lists should be removed and converted to regular prose: it looks and reads a lot nicer that way.
  • One- and two-sentence paragraphs should be merged: short paragraphs make the article less pleasant to read and should be avoided wherever possible.

Removed Deletion Template[edit]

Removed deletion template, article is current, new edits added citing recent press coverage and links to fansites. Wurm is notable game as being unique in MMO's and adds to wiki information as such, wiki would be sadder without it and lacking information about general game evolution in the present day. --Arakus (talk) 13:01, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Macroing/hacking details[edit]

Well, there is really no tools avaibable on the resource sited except for a harmless map dump, it does however work as a verifable resource coming from someone who was busted for doing the exact thing we are talking about. Since Macroing has been and is still such a great part of several members of the wurm community I just see it fit that some information is avaibable on them. However if the main idea of wikipedia is to be a showcase for products I can understand the need to remove any reference even if it is true. --Hexkey82 (talk) 19:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The username Hexkey82 is in no way related to Prometheus, and was picked late at night while playing D&D with some friends, an 82 or larger % was needed to actually cast some magic inside a dead zone and the result was exactly 82 (twice). Of all the possible results a single, non magical key appeared magicaly in the air and dropped down on the dead zone hexagon , making the stalwart band of adventurers forget about their main objective and threw themselves into a madmans chase for finding out the reason of the key (which was none). After we all had our skin handed to us by some evil mindflayers the rest of the groups decided it was an appropiate nickname and it been used from time to time. Again , sorry for the confusion, an more proper nickname should have been used for the wiki-account but the lack of creativity made me go back to my D&D roots and pick up this NN.

And if Prometheus feels like it, please add more up to date information on macroing such as an estimate of numbers of players macroing and more correct information if he feels something is wrong. If I had been evil enough I guess I would have added a list of names including a few very notable players with the exact macro script they are using (since I did send them it) or exploit, however I feel that it is not really necesarry to do so since no action would be taken anyway by the wurm team. And since a few names now have "powers" it would cause even a bigger uproar.

Ah thank goodness for that, i thought someone was trying to impersonate me and use my identity to either sell non working or virus loaded hacks to people. Wurm Online staff abuse controversy.[edit]

There is currently an ongoing controversy on Steam about Wurm Online staff abuse of commercial customers, including consent to players cyberbullying other players, staff cyberbullying and ableism towards ASD players, peculiar definition of bug abuse, bans for normal PVP against staff members and their acquaintances and false advertising.
