Meaning[edit]

Surely the Biblical Jezebel is the primary meaning. PatGallacher (talk) 21:25, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's listed as the first option. Let's say it is the primary meaning. How will you tell when someone intended to link to the website, using Jezebel, and it goes to the article on the biblical figures? There's no way back from that. Josh Parris 04:52, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you misunderstand the concept of primary meaning. See WP:PRIMARY. PatGallacher (talk) 11:22, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're correct that the primary meaning is the Biblical one, Pat. (Josh: There would of course be a WP:HATNOTE on the Biblical article that says "For other meanings, see Jezebel (disambiguation)." But the Biblical figure(s) appears to be a significantly more likely topic to be targeted as "Jezebel" than any of the other articles linked here.) I'm going to create a Requested Move. • The topic at Jezebel (Bible) appears to be the primary topic, as the presumed original source for the name later applied to other topics, such as the website. Stats at [1] indicate that Jezebel (Bible) receives significantly more views than any other topic here. A Google search and a look at incoming internal links also suggest that the Biblical article is the primary topic. I therefore suggest that the disambiguation page should be moved to Jezebel (disambiguation) and the article at Jezebel (Bible) should be moved to Jezebel. Propaniac (talk) 16:30, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the Biblical person is clearly the primary meaning. PatGallacher (talk) 02:25, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't move Jezebel (Bible) to Jezebel, if you must make Jezebel (Bible) the primary topic please do so with a redirect from Jezebel, otherwise you'll end up with Bed (which can't be disambiguated). Josh Parris 12:28, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • You'll have to move the seven redirects too. Josh Parris 12:38, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • While you're at it, feel free to clean up the incoming ambiguous links. Josh Parris 12:38, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • First of all, if we determine that the Biblical figure is the primary topic, then it should be placed at the base Jezebel title, in accordance with disambiguation and page-naming guidelines. I don't know what you mean by not being able to disambiguate bed. If you're implying that every single article should have a disambiguating clarifier in the title, that simply doesn't square with the reality of how Wikipedia is set up. Second, yes, dealing with redirects and incoming links is part of any move, but is not too big a deal, especially as there are bots that will clean up double-redirects, and there will be a link to the disambiguation page for anyone who follows an incorrect link to Jezebel. These are not reasons to avoid moving a page to a more appropriate title. Propaniac (talk) 14:22, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak oppose I think the primary topic is actually the dictionary definition of a sort of very bad woman, so the dab page serves as a hint to wiktionary. 76.66.192.206 (talk) 05:04, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • That "definition" is a reference to the Biblical figure, so users searching Wikipedia for information on that meaning would be best served by going to the Biblical article. Propaniac (talk) 14:03, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Query re bed: Where does bed come into it? Pages Bed and Bed (disambiguation) do not mention Jezebel. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
