Deepening (and widening?) of harbour

‘Congress approved an appropriation of $50,000 on March 1, 1869, to deepen the approaches to this harbor.’ But ‘[until 1898] the U.S. did not fortify Pearl Harbor as a naval base. The shallow entrance constituted a formidable barrier against the use of the deep protected waters of the inner harbor as it had for 60 years.’

Hawaiian word error according to my sister in Hawaii. I am also born and brought up there. The Hawaiian word for Pearl Water is given as Wainomi. But the word for pearl is momi. The word should be Waimomi-- Pearl Water.

If we should proceed with something more to confirm this change, please send the details.

No they're not, both of them are dead and have been for 50-70 years by now. Surely this should be reworded to say "The family of the two American commanders" or "The supporters of..." It would be nice if there was a map of hawaii or the island that pearl harbor is located on in this wiki article so one can see in context where it is located. It's hard to place where Pearl Harbor is visually. TonyMorris68 (talk) 14:40, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Long dead, demoted American commanders are now seeking to restore their full ranks

Revision 648068288, dated 20 February 2015 inserted the claim that two American military commanders, Lt. Gen. Walter Short and Adm. Husband Kimmel were demoted of their full ranks, and are now seeking to restore their reputations and full ranks. A citation is provided to an issue of Christian Science Monitor from 1996, but it's presumably not available online, so I can't check it. In any case, the claim that Short, who died in 1949, and Kimmel, who died in 1968, are currently seeking to restore their ranks sounds extremely dubious. 125.255.248.10 (talk) 23:31, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

According to Callista L. Gingrich and Newt Gingrich, a war game simulated an attack on Pearl Harbor on February 7, 1932. This drill demonstrated the vulnerability of the U.S. fleet stationed there. I find it very curious that there was

a) no link to the currently existing Naval installation PEARL HARBOR NAVAL COMPLEX or Naval Station Pearl Harbor (its last rename), which confusingly was its own page
