As a member of WikiProject Comics, I thought you might be interested in the Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight we have set up. Possible Copyvio[edit]
According to an anonymous user, it seems as though certain edits you made to Vecna might be copyrighted material. Please see Talk:Vecna for explanation. If the information does come from the book Domains of Dread or another copyrighted source, we cannot accept it on wikipedia. I reverted the page to what I assume to be the last non-copyvio version. Copyvios[edit]
Ive noticed that on a number of entries you have copied material from the Marvel Directory website (which in turn mostly copies from the Marvel Handbook) directly on to Wikipedia. This is not allowed as it does not qualify as fair use. Even the pictures from ther Handbook are disallowed Im afraid. Ive removed the offending material from where I could find it (secifically the Controller, Doctor Demonicus and entries). Please remove any other examples I missed and cease adding such material . - Good usable pics can be found at the Grand Comics' Database [1], which has images of just about every comic cover ever printed. Covers are usually fair use, whereas Handbook pics have been judged not to be on the basis that the Marvel Handbook is a kind of Encyclopedia and thus a competing product.
- On my talk page you also you mention the fact that other entries contain copyvios, but I cannot see how that justifies your actions. I hope you fix your past edits and stop doing it, as some of your work clearly has merit. Hueysheridan 19:01, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Okay I see how you could have possibly made an innocent mistake (though you've apparently been on wikipedia for over a year and have been warned about copyvios before which makes it a bit hard to believe) but I hope you understand now that it is not okay and fix your previous edits. Thanks for fixing your work and my apologies for apparently wrongly stating that you hadnt done so at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Notice Board. We were having that discussion at an inappropriate location though (my fault really) so Id just as soon remove the whole thing now that the issue is resolved. Its bad form to wipe other people's comments without permission though, so Im hoping youll let me do it. Im happy to let you repost them somewhere more appropriate if you want. Eternals[edit]
Hiya Dr. Archeville, to reply to your comment on my talk page, your new edit of the Eternals article is not as blatant a rip off as the last two, but it is again clearly just paraphrasing from the Marvel Directory entry. You make it obvious by again falling into the trap of conveying the information in the exact same paragraph structure as the Handbook entry (well thats at least true of the first 4-5 paragraphs, which is as far as I read). Like I said before and (as was made clear at the Wikiproject talk page) the best way to be clear of all this would be to use the directory as a source, but also look to other sources and cite issue numbers in connection with each claim (preferably also with a listing of the main creators involved and cover dates). As for deleting the information, at this point I think Im over-involved in the issue, I could risk being in contravention of the 3rr rule by again deleting the text and to some extent Ive frankly lost interest. Not to mention the fact that you have obviously gone to some effort here, I dont have the heart to remove your work and as you have previously pointed out the page at this point is probably less bad than many other comic book related pages (though thats admittedly pretty specious logic). I have already brought some wider attention to this whole matter at the wikiproj talk page so hopefully their are still other more experienced editors watching the page who will review it and amend it as necessary. Anyway, to end an already very long-winded answer, I hope you really are sincere in your request for criticism and consider editing the article yourself along the lines I suggested (P.S. Images in articles???[edit]
Hello. I left a question on the wikiproject comics talk page, but nobody seems to have noticed, so I figured I'd ask a person who seems to know what they're talking about. After reading the thing about copyrights and images, I wanted to make sure I understood it correctly. If I would scan a few panels or a page out of a comic book and upload it onto wikipedia, would it be fair use? The way I interpreted it is that it's okay so long as you don't put so much onto the article that the reader doesn't have to actually buy the comic book. Is that right? A pyrate's life for me...
