• Delete. I think it's a hoax. Or just possibly a fictional incident from a movie or story presented as if true. Simply delete unless verifiable information is presented prior to expiration of VfD. If it's not a hoax, "The Great Diamond Hoax" is still not a well-known phrase referring to any such incident. It becomes a mildly interesting bit of trivia that could go in some article about the history of California or San Francisco. But do not keep as a separate article or as a redirect. • Delete: Even if it were real (which I doubt), it would be one of the similar numerous attempts to defraud people by salting already empty mines with gold dust or something equally valuable. There could be an article about this type of crime but this incident would be hardly "the largest hoax known to mankind" (see Bre-X, for one) - Skysmith 11:24, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
