untitled[edit]

CT had pretty much transitioned to A4 sized books before MT came out. e.g. The Traveller Book, The Traveller Adventure, Starter Traveller, & the alien modules. --(12:26 CST 24 May 2005) Robert Fisher (I haven't bothered to register yet.)

Firefly and Traveler[edit]

Does anyone, beside myself, see Firefly as very much like Traveller? --Tony Hecht 01:01, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On the GURPS forum as well as several Traveller forums people have noticed the resemblance since shortly after the first episode of Firefly aired. At one point Joss Whedon was even asked about it and his response was; "Traveller? Never heard of it." Seanr451 06:40, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Traveller (role-playing game) proposal[edit]

I was looking back and forth at the two articles, and I can't really justify to myself there being a whole different page for Classic Traveller. I think we should pull the content into the appropriate section of the main Traveller article. Comments? Georgewilliamherbert 02:00, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The Traveller (role-playing game) page has extensive info and an overview of all of the various game systems used to play in the Traveller universe. I think the Classic Traveller page needs to be expanded to show the difference between the Traveller as a whole and Classic Traveller. Seanr451 06:38, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the perspective issue... Classic Traveller was Traveller as a whole for the first near-decade of its existence. The current article being separate almost seems to want to distance CT from its legacy of where MegaTraveller and TNE and so on went.
Why do you believe that CT needs a separate article? What's the justification? Georgewilliamherbert 07:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will agree that if no one will expand on the article for Classic Traveller then it should be merged into the Traveller (role-playing game) page. But I honestly feel that Classic Traveller is different enough from the other versions that it should have its own page. If no one else will expand it then I will do so. I am also concerned that once the CT page is merged that people will then want to merge the GURPS Traveller page into the Traveller (role-playing game) page. GURPS Traveller is a very unusual case as role-playing games go and really does need its own page. Seanr451 20:32, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the merge as it stands. The Classic Traveller page brings nothing extra to the party. If in the future the Classic Traveller stuff outgrows the main article it can be hived back off. The only problem with this is that all versions of Traveller share the history of Classic Traveller so the Classic Traveller article can only really have information on what books comprised the line as the history isn't unique to it among the versions. I agree - this article will never grow while Traveller (role-playing game) exists. Merge. Percy Snoodle 12:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, with 3:1 for the merge, I intend to do a merge tomorrow. Georgewilliamherbert 02:57, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool - I'll update the templates. Percy Snoodle 14:10, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merged![edit]

I have processed the merge. A week plus a bit later than I hoped, but it's done now. Please review and comments welcome. Georgewilliamherbert 22:40, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
