Ami Mazar is one of the current leading archaeologists in Israel and the Middle East. He has indeed directed a number of vital excavations and makes frequent contributions to scholarship. He is one of the chief protagonists in the current debate regarding the validity and chronology of the United Monarchy, one of the most vexed issues in Biblical archaeology today. NB: this entry could be deleted though, or be the subject of a redirect, as I have now created a fuller entry under Mazar's full name.... User:pjamescowie

OK, I have now incorporated a redirect to the full name entry..... IMHO it's worth retaining this redirect as many archaeology buffs will no doubt search on "Ami Mazar", which is the shortened Hebrew name that many will know him by..... Such a search will now lead them to the correct entry and his full name, instead of a dead end. User:pjamescowie
