It's generally considered appropriate[edit]

It's generally considered appropriate to put the main article at the full name and the redirect at the acronym. But in this case, I think we should make the exception, as everybody knows what "XGA" is (well, everybody knows it's something to do with computers and monitors, at least), whereas noone outside the industry has ever heard of it by its full and formal name. XGA should be either a redirect or a disambiguation page, because there are other synonymous things too, like this song. NSK 00:24, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

>XGA is NOT a 'synonym' for the resolution 1024x768; that's the wrong word. it is generally the NAME of the resolution, but not a synonym-- that would imply that both are words, or at least that both share a conceptual structure. for example, 'hit' is roughly synonymous with 'punch'; both are just simple verbs that describe a similar action. but 'banana' is not synonymous with 'yellow, canoe-shaped fruit that comes in bunches'; one is a simple noun that is a SYMBOL for something and the other is a phrase whose only referent happens to be a banana. in the same way, 'XGA' is not SYNONYMOUS with 'the resolution 1024x768', even though it certainly MEANS 1024x768.<

XGA hardware[edit]

This may be a dumb question, and as a "computer person" I should already know it, but I'll never know if I don't ask. Does XGA refer only to the software technology or is it linked to a particular type of hardware as well? SVGA (AFAIK anyway) always uses a 15-pin mini-DIN connector, though it may be different for non-PC hardware. Does XGA use the same type of connectors, or different ones? From reading the article, I would guess the same, but it seems like there should be some explanation of this in the article. ZZYZX 12:00, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect resolutions listed[edit]

The original XGA, "XGA-1", DID NOT support 800x600, only 640x480 and 1024x768. XGA-2 added support for 800x600 resolution (See http://www.mcamafia.de/mcapage0/xgsetup1.htm ). Also, the IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual ( http://ps-2.kev009.com:8081/ohlandl/books/ps2-hmm.pdf ) provides some useful information on pp. 401-2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.196.216.11 (talk) 02:25, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two different topics[edit]

This article mixes two completely different topics – the XGA graphic adapter (a piece of hardware) and the XGA resolution (1024×768). -- Sloyment (talk) 14:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
