abeyant or extinct?[edit]

The barony was elevated to a dukedom in 1719, and it finally fell into abeyance in 1789, after 452 years.

Abeyance implies the possibility of revival, usually (are there exceptions?) because the claim fell to two or more sisters; but the last duke had only one daughter. His article says the Chandos barony went dormant (meaning a further heir is possible but unidentified, because the title was created in times of poor records) and the other titles extinct. —Tamfang (talk) 04:07, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
