Precipitation Efficiency[edit]

Effects such as re-evaporating rain and local atmospheric moistening result in the precipitation rate not being directly proportional to the condensation rate. Therefore precipitation efficiency is a complex characteristic of a convective system. It has an impact on cloud paremetrisation, the forecasting of heavy rainfall and flash floods, and the climate feedback of clouds.[1]

Concept[edit]

Precipitation efficiency is defined to evaluate how efficiently the convective system produces precipitation. The precipitation efficiency of convection is a measure of how much of the water that condenses in a rising column of air reaches the surface as precipitation. [2]
